you know the mood and the topic has been JVR, Schenn and a pick for Weber. |

I may not know Weber as well as everyone else here, so it seems. But you tell me. What's better: Suter+JVR+Schenn+1st round, or Weber..... - steelydan

The Flyers are perennial contenders. It's luck that we even ended up with these "commodities", as you put them.
Trading Richards (considered untouchable) for a Schenn? That will never happen again.
Flyers tanking and drafting JVR 2nd overall? That will never happen again
Trading Carter (another untouchable) for Couts? That will never happen again.
These commodities weren't just "handed" to us. The Flyers had to pay a price for each one, and I don't see us having this sort of "excess' of young talent in the near future.
As I've said. Pronger is either back or off the books next year. From there, you sign a Suter or other top Defenseman.

if Suter goes to free agency, id say something like 29 other teams will want him. the bidding war will be ridiculous and you would hate what youd have to give him to keep him. in fact, if guys like JVR and Schenn turn out anything like the next "Forsberg and Sakic", it will make them unaffordable down the road. Rumor is Nashville has upped the offer to 7 mill per and he still hasnt accepted. |

Exactly. Every time we've made these deals, we've had to take certain steps back. Moving Carter and Richards was more then just the return in the deal itself. It was to make room for other things (Jagr, Bryz, and the return). |

I feel like the carter trade might turn out better - flyers4487
It may, but I was looking more so on what we gave up compared to what we got.
Carter is injured and not having the best of seasons, but he will be back. And Cooter and Voracek combined over the course of their careers may not score as much as Carter when all is said and done.
I go with Coburn because we got a legitimate top 4 dman for a player that was pretty much on his way to retirement. |

I dont know if I spend $7M for Suter. That is alot of money for one player who will probably get a long contract with a NMC. |

If I was the Nashville GM, I would trade Weber for a 3rd round pick to the Flyers. And then I would fire myself and join the Flyers staff, because I am a Flyers fan. - feelingkettle

depends on how likely you are to retain him. - isaiah520
Weber is RFA, the Preds have the advantage with him.
But I see what you are saying. |

if Weber was on the table, other teams would offer more. Say Edmonton offered Hall, Eberle and our 2012 1st(almost certain to be top 3)? They won't, but just say they did. If you're Nashville, what do you do? |

If Suter is turning down 7mil, then he doesn't want to be there. He can't really think he's worth 7mil... |

LeClair also had Lindros, Knuble had Forsberg, and Hartnell had Giroux... Not trying to put those guys down, but Weber doesnt need anyone else to be great, he makes the guys around him better. - RooNosHockey
Did LeClair have Lindros his entire career? Did Knuble have Forsberg his entire career? Did Hartnell have Giroux his entire career? Now you're just downplaying what each player can do. Funny thing is, both Forsberg and Lindros spent a lot of time hurt. |

If Kimmo can get 6.33 on the open market, Suter can get 7. |

Its just a rumor. I guarantee you if he goes to UFA, the bidding war will go that high or possibly higher. |

Not saying he couldn't get 7, but if that is what Nashville is offering him and he's turning it down, he probably doesn't want to be there as his first choice. |
