I have certainly spoken to people who make the case for Bryz by pointing out who Bob has played HOWEVER - it doesn't matter because either way we are making the same point. Bob needs to play better quality teams. He should get the Devils not the Isles. - TS_Downes
I don't necessarily think making use quality of competition to explain the stats differential between them is detracting from Bobrovsky. Most of the comments I have seen here at least are along the lines of why not see if Bob can match his efforts against better teams.
The Devils are a good team, but hardly an offensive juggernaut. Personally, I had called for Bob to start against Boston. |

It isn't official that Bobrovsky is starting but I think there's a chance that Bryzgalov gets both ends of the back-to-back games over the weekend plus Bob has played two outstanding games against the Islanders. - bmeltzer
Idk Bill, I would much rather see Bryz tonight and Sunday... Just me though. |

Here is my reasoning for Bryz getting tonight and Sunday..
If he plays tonight that will be, what 3 straight for him? Good.. then give him a few days to focus on playing Boston. That is gonna be a huge game for him.. and if he can play well in that game.. and get us a point or two.. that would be great for him heading into the all star break. Talk about heading out on a high note. |

I could care less what the Bob detractors say about him. I care about what's best for the team and winning. Based on Laviolette's recent comments about Bryzgalov being brought here to be the horse, you play Bobrovsky tonight, since he is the back up. And Bryzgalov get's both over the weekend.
This idea that Laviolette makes poor decisions choosing goaltenders, and is a weakness of his, is a myth. - MJL
What's best for this team is getting Bryzgalov back on track and ready to carry them in the playoffs. Whether they finish first or eighth, the single most important goal for the Flyers for the rest of this season is to get Bryzgalov playing well.
IMO Bryz playing the Isles tonight and the Bruins on Sunday serves that purpose better than him playing the Devils Saturday afternoon and then the Bruins Sunday afternoon. The second option just carries much more of a chance of disaster.
And please don't overvalue Bob's record against the Isles. Its the ISLES!!! the team has won 23 of the last 24 against them with many different goalies in net!! Plus, I'm dying to see Bob play a team like the Devils - give him a chance to redeem himself for that WC performance, in which he played well but gave up that Rupp softee for the loss. |

How he handled the playoffs last year would give me pause on agreeing with that.
Does Bob have any detractors?
After thinking a bit on tonight, with Bobs success against the Icelanders, 4 games in 6 nights, 3 in 4 nights, it DOES make sense to start Bob today and Bryz for both tilts this weekend.
You cant deny that Bob owns the Icelanders, And give Bryz the last two before the break. - MBFlyerfan
It comes down to players make Coaches look good, and they make them look bad. What happened last year is what happens when a Coach doesn't trust his goaltenders. It can be looked at with hindsight as a mistake. But they weren't winning that Series.

the coach's call on the goalie, Bryz still needs work on his rebounds and the more he plays the better his rebound control. |

I understand full well why Bob is getting the start, but personally think it should be Bryz. He got stronger as the game went along against the wild... Would have really liked to see him right back in net again. - jak521
I bet they are saving him for this weekend. |

I dont understand how putting a goalie in net who played one regular season NHL game all year long(and let up 4 goals), makes sense. I dont care how terrible our goalies were playing.
Michael Leighton had a save percentage of .625 in that game.

Starting Bob tonight, with Bryz getting both of the back to backs is sensible. Personally, I'd like to see Bob get one of the two weekend games, but going with Bob now and Bryz back to back is hardly a horrible call. - Jsaquella
Giving Bryz back-to-back afternoon games (which is still just speculation at this point) vs. two fairly tough opponents doesn't appeal to me.
But I'm not the coach, so whatever happens happens. |

I get it, just think tonight and Sunday would be a wiser choice. Either way, we need some wins... and both are capable of doing that.
I just would like to see Bryz continue to develop confidence... Sunday is a huge game for him.. |

No the single most important goal for the rest of the Season is to win Hockey games and get into the playoffs. So based on Bobrovsky's record against the Islanders, it makes sense to play him tonight. Playing the Devils doesn't redeem Bobrovsky from anything. That game is over. Time to move on.
Based on Laviolette's comments, Bobrovsky tonight, Bryzgalov in both over the weekend. |

Yeah, I think you can make the case that any scenario would have been good. I would like to see BOB get a game against a quality team and let Bryz build off of a win against the Wild, but I also want to see Bryz play back to back against 2 quality opponents. As long as they win, I'm good |

I think Bryz tonight and Sunday makes the most sense. You don't pay a player 51M not to play. On the other hand, Bob has been playing very well of late. Bryz needs a soft ball to get some of his confidence back, and the Isles offer that. |

Kind of like how Nitty got every start against Lehtonen and the Thrashers. The numbers were too good to ignore. |

we also didnt have a #1 who was trying to regain confidence... Just saying though. At the end of the day, who ever is in net needs to do well.. and I will cheer regardless |
