If you can't consider taking another route to get Weber other then the 2 players mentioned, you're crazy. - Schenn2shine

They want to sign both of them long term. The hold up with Weber isn't cash, it's Weber wanting to be sure he doesn't get stuck on a long term deal with a team that will always be cannon fodder in the early rounds of the playoffs. - Jsaquella
Weber belongs in the Eastern Conference wearing O&B. JvR, Schenn, pick for Weber, im convinced lets get it done. |

I know but I thought they were cash strapped and couldn't afford both at 7 mill a year? |

I'd rather keep the other players...
Giroux? No.
Jagr? They don't want.
Hartnell? NTC
Briere? NMC
Simmonds? Not enough potential to be centerpiece of trade for weber
Coots? Hell no.
Talbot? Nope.
Read? Calder trophy baby!
Shelley? Nashville just hung up the phone.

I went a little over the top making a point, that being that just because a teams fans overvalue certain players doesn't mean NHL GMs do. No way in hell Tambi trades Eberle AND Hall..this years 1st would just be the icing on big cake of stupid. It would make edmonton's defence better while eviscerating the offence. - GuyLaDouche
I understood the point you were trying to make. I think the Flyers are in a position where they could withstand the losses of JVR and a Schenn for Weber (if Nashville would even consider such a deal) in the short-term.
But there's not much more in the pipeline right now that projects as a top-6 forward. Flyers need to be taking advantage of having skilled forwards on their ELC's, not trading them away. Even for Weber. |

Note that he mentioned JVR's contract. He means, I'm sure, you don't move onto a long-term deal before a guy is getting close to UFA status unless he's shown you he's earned it. I'm guessing he feels the long-term deal on JVR was premature and going for a shorter-term, or even 1-year deal when you'll still control the rights at the end would have been wiser, in his opinion. - bodiva88
The problem is for some reason the NHL has eliminated the middle level contract. Players are going from thier EL level deals straight into 4-5 M a year deals. If you remember with a player such as Gagne, he had to go a number of years after his EL deal to get into that 5M a year range. So from that respect I agree. But it doesn't seem like it happens. |

Weber is a franchise dman... he's a beast in every zone on the ice... guys like him come around one in a blue moon...
JVR and Schenn come around every year... - archion113

You know.. i have noticed that as well... its like the middle contract is build into the long term contract...
So players go from EL contracts and low expectations.. to huge contracts and huge expectations

They have a budget, but they have given every indication that they want to keep both, at almost any cost.
However, the word I heard was that both want to stay, as long as the Preds will take the next step to be a more serious contender.
That's why I think that if it comes down to it, they will try to shoot the moon with one or both of them if they can not work out a deal. Especially Weber. |

Really? What other route would you suggest? Other teams could certainly offer better packages. what do you think might land him from a different route? |

Sent to AHL on conditioning stint. Rumor is he's not happy with lack of playing time. - Jsaquella
He should work on staying healthier, then.
As an aside, if this were three years ago, there would be no complaints of Nitty against Atlanta like there are Bob against NYI. |

Happens in most sports with a salary cap. You have stars and guys that project to being stars getting huge paydays, and then you have lower paid guys and middle of the road vets. |

Ryan for the calder. I guess when you dream this late in the season, you dream big. Nashville could want Getzlef, Perry or Ryan for Weber and that could work easily. |

Well, because everyone knows that if Nitty was the back-up, there's no way he'd be the starter. |

I haven't seen enough from either of them to think that they could be a franchise player.
But you said it your self... they COULD be...
Weber IS already someone you build your team around.

Nashville has 14.5 million in cap space right now. That tells me all I want to know about how much they want to "take the next step".
