we also didnt have a #1 who was trying to regain confidence... Just saying though. At the end of the day, who ever is in net needs to do well.. and I will cheer regardless - jak521

It comes down to players make Coaches look good, and they make them look bad. What happened last year is what happens when a Coach doesn't trust his goaltenders. It can be looked at with hindsight as a mistake. But they weren't winning that Series. - MJL
Agreed. With the performance his goalies have provided since he's been here Lavy has had it very, very tough. But the fact remains that he consistently makes the wrong call. Again, given his options, it's tough to find the right call, but that's his job. He made the wrong call in starting Bob for the WC and if he starts Bob tonight that will be another wrong call.

I dont understand how putting a goalie in net who played one regular season NHL game all year long(and let up 4 goals), makes sense. I dont care how terrible our goalies were playing.
Michael Leighton had a save percentage of .625 in that game. - jak521
It didn't make sense. So consider what went into the Coach making that diecision. How did he feel about his other options. He knew his team was cooked and he was looking for a miracle somehow. But now Laviolette has been labeled with a supposed weakness in choosing goaltenders. Which ignores the past. It's a belief that is started on message boards and grows like a weed! It's BS. |

Why did he make the wrong call in starting Bobrovsky for the WC. That they lost the game? |

I dont think he has a weakness in choosing goalies.. but I dont think he does the goalies any justice in flip flopping them..
How were they cooked in that series? It was 2-1 Flyers?
In that series against Buffalo Boosh was playing lights out and was the primary reason we had a 2-0 lead in the series.. He had a save % of .95 leading up to that one bad period before Leighton took over. Why go back to Leighton? Why wouldnt you have confidence in Boosh? |

Giving Bryz back-to-back afternoon games (which is still just speculation at this point) vs. two fairly tough opponents doesn't appeal to me.
But I'm not the coach, so whatever happens happens. - bradleyc4
Me either, but it's not like starting Leighton cold in game 6 of the Buffalo series |

Absolutely.. I dont have a problem with bob in net tonight and Bryz back to back, but it doesnt make the most sense to me.. You have Bryz playing 2 games against two very good teams, in less than a 24 hour span. |

Many would contend that, given his struggles, Bryzgalov would've only been worse had he started the WC. |

What do you guys think about Selanne saying Philly is one of the 3 teams he would be traded to?
I wouldnt mind this if we make a big trade for Weber or Suter, or is Selanne is in a package with Vishnovsky.
What if Suter's price is Schenn, Bourdon, and a conditional first in 2013 if he signs. And we can get Selanne for a second and Testwiede(sp). Not a bad Idea right?

I don't like giving that much for Suter at all, especially since there's no guarantee he signs. And why would Nashville trade him before the season ends if they are trying to make a run? |

I agrEE.
Bryz tonight. Bob Sat and Bryz Sunday makes the most sense.
I will say that Lava spoke about how he wants to keep bryz around 60 starts for the season and he stated that they are on that pace with him.
Lava said he doesn't want to go into the playoffs with Bryz at 68 + games and worn down.
I don't disagree with that strategy.

I wouldn't trade Schenn and a conditional first for a guy who I can sign without losing any assets in July, who also probably has a concussion right now.
I also think that Anaheim is going to want more than a 2nd rounder and Testwuide for Selanne. Testwuide seems to be a career AHLer

I dont think it matters what goalies you have in net. The reason they look shaky is the system the Flyers play. They are 80% attack and 20% defense. It just leaves all our goalies out to dry. But you have to admit it makes for exciting hockey. |

Am I the only one that is willing to make the tough trades to try and win this year?
And I doubt Anaheim will get much for Selannie considering he is 40, on the last year of a contract and will only give permission to be traded to 3 teams. |

The playoffs last year were a disaster. You have the already discussed Leighton wrong call. And how about Bob goes from being the starter when the playoffs began to being scratched a few games later based upon one game??? Way to kill a first year player's confidence. Nothing good could have come from Bob starting the WC. Bob is not going to be the goalie come playoff time - please understand that. So him winning the WC does nothing for the Flyers come playoff time. Bryz winning the WC however would have been huge. If he started and lost it would have been just another bump. Bad call Lavy.
Lavy won the cup despite his goaltender flip flopping and it was the worst thing that could have happened for Flyers fans. (Certainly good for Lavy though) |
