Cause Giroux is our number 1 center, and to have a guy like Schenn or Couturier, who are possible all-stars themselves as a number 3 is a waist of talent. Move 1 to wing next season, save the Richards, Carter, Giroux, Briere problem. - RooNosHockey
If they don't get a guy like Couturier, then that trade definitely has a much different feel to it. - funmaster18
it was still the 8th pick and we would have had a solid defenseman instead, something we could have used. It still would have been a decent pick, and we wouldnt be talking about getting a young defenseman right now, possibly.

me too, I was replying to someone that said IF WE DIDNT GET COOTS, ther carter trade would have been a flop. I was just saying it wouldnt necessarily. - RooNosHockey
How is Giroux, Birere, Schenn, Talbot OR Giroux, Briere, Coots, Talbot not strong up the middle? - RooNosHockey
The team would be stronger up the middle with Briere at Wing versus Center. There are some ifs involved there, as far as Schenn. Couturier, is definitely a Center.

This is what he said. "The trade of Carter for Jake and a pick was pretty weak return, the Flyers just got lucky as poop he fell that far," - RooNosHockey

If Cooter didn't fall that far they may have take Dougie Hamilton who the Bruins picked after Cooter, that would have been fantastic as well IMO

Yes they would be stonger up the middle, but weaker at wings. I would rather give Giroux someone like Schenn to pass to in a few years, then have Schenn on the 3rd line passing to guys like Talbot and Zulnerczyk.

Exactly what I said, but I added that if that was the case then we might not be talking about making a trade for a young star defenseman right now...

What a phenomenal trade the Kessel deal was for Boston.
