The problem with Shelley is that with games like this he isn't going to play when it gets out of hand.
Simmonds looked good with Couturier and read. |

Its time for them to use that roster spot on one of the Phantoms - JoeRussomanno
I don't even really blame him. Laviolette isn't exactly using him like that and when he is out there, nobody wants to fight him. |

He doesn't prevent anyone from getting hit. That's kind of my problem. If you have an enforcer, that's kind of his job. To prevent guys from getting hit or to at least get retribution when it happens.
Shelley and his lone fight aren't providing that service right now. - Jsaquella
You and I both know that's not how it works. An enforcer has never stopped anyone from being hit. This is no different from the last game when Shelley was blamed for Clutterbuck hitting people. And I'll repeat the same. An enforcer doesn't have carte blanche to seek retribution. Flyers are losing in the game and down 2-0 or 3-0 and Shelley should go out and jump someone? It's mind boggling to me that with the performance of the team tonight, that Shelley is being criticized.

Well Clement pretty much nailed some of the big problems with this team. Why don't the players understand it? |

I'm suggesting they use the spot on one of the phantoms to see what they have in those guys. I'd like to see more of Holmstrom and some of Testwuide. |

see post above. Can't blame Shelley for anything other than being offensively inept. With games like tonight and the flyers are chasing the game Shelley is not going to play.
That's a waste of a spot if you ask me.
Couturier and read were two of the better forwards. They need a better linemate.

Night all. Get 4 points this weekend. Not sticking around for 20 pages of someone defending Shelley. That poop is beyond (frank)ing old. - PLindbergh31
Yea because it totally makes sense to criticize Shelley in this game. Hell if Rinaldo was healthy and could've played, the Flyers probably would of won the game. All the issues that went on in that game, let's discuss Jody Shelley.

You're taking it far too literally.
I have said, repeatedly, that you can't blame Shelley for it.
Unfortunately, it re-enforces my belief that carrying and dressing a limited enforcer is a dumb idea. It's easier to type Shelley than limited enforcer who isn;t going to play a regular shift over and over who nobody will fight. |

If Shelley is not playing, someone else is getting more icetime. Do you think Rinaldo would've seen the ice with the Flyers chasing the game all night? Only if the Coach chose to punish people and take away ice time.

Shelley is a terrible hockey player, can't fight and has a cap hit of 1.1 mill. He will always be criticized and be the topic of many jokes as he should be. This team sucks and has many problems ...but we are stuck watching this garbage hockey, have no control over anything and can only sulk, be frustrated and bash Jody Shelley. |

there is fecal matter left in an abandoned tenement slum crack house that represented a greater effort than most of the flyers did tonite. |

If the coach cant use him at times and when he can nobody wants to fight him then why roster an enforcer? Im not blaming Shelley tonight cause the team was horrible all over the place. It would be nice to give some of these younger guys (phantoms) a chance to gain experience. |

Maybe Rinaldo plays with the regular 4th line shift. I'm not knocking Shelley. IMO that roster spot could be better utilized. Third line of Couturier, Read, and Simmonds looks good to me.

What I mean is, don;t take it as me bagging on Shelley himself. I'm bagging on the logic behind having a guy whose role is dying out.
I'm also not even suggesting that Rinaldo would have played more. The entire team, with a few exceptions, played like poop tonight.
Bob was great, Talbot showed up, Couturier and Read were good...and Schenn had a nice back check. That's where the good pretty much hits the wall and ends. |

That's kind of my point, although had Rinaldo been playing, I doubt he would have seen much more ice time than Shelley did. |
