Honestly, I would never give up JVR, Schenn and 2 1st rounders for Weber. I would look elsewhere before making that trade. - stveshdy
If they have no plans on resigning him, then thats a huge price to pay |

I'm sorry but I can't stand when the Flyers lose for 2 reasons. First because I always want to win but the second reason is listening how pathetic everyone here sounds. Who cares how many minutes Jody Shelley played, it doesn't matter. If Shelley has no effect on the game, then he had no effect on the loss tonight. Why not try actually talking about where the team went wrong as a whole?
Every single day, you all female dog and complain about something that isn't going to change and something that is completely out of our control. So why bring it up? Why even bother watching the games if it's going to give you something to complain about? You all collectively sound like a bunch of losers.
I'm sorry if this comes off harsh but my god. The team was bad tonight. Everyone throughout the entire line up. Bryz wasn't in the line up to blame and Jody Shelley barely saw ice time, so why not point fingers at the people who deserve to have fingers pointed at them? - Schenn2shine
90% of the Shelley bashing is joking to simply show frustration. The other 10% is wondering why they even have a designated enforcer if nobody on an opposing team wants to fight him.
Lot of folks are laying into the way the rest of the team played, not just complaining about Shelley. |

In this specific game I would have to agree. But in other games, the defense turns the puck over too many times and can be very inconsistant at times. Their decision making is mind boggling for a veteran group. - stveshdy
We'll disagree here, which is cool, but I honestly don't have tons of issues individually with the defensemen most of the time. I really peg more on lack of support. They don't always have very good options when they get forced into making mistakes, and that is the rest of the team's fault as much as it is the individual. Do they need to add at least 1 D man better than they have? Yea I think so. But I also think their system tends to leave the D hung out to dry and overcompensating for lack of team coverage at times. |

The whole team was pretty bad tonight, that's for sure. The thing with Shelley is that he is not going to, ever, make a difference in the outcome of the game, so it's easy to bag on him. He's a distraction from the real problems on the team, and everyone knows that. He is pretty worthless, but he's not keeping himself on the team... Holmgren obviously owes him a lot of money from locker room poker games. Maybe everyone here just wants to know, for piece of mind, that if someone more effective were available (even if they played the same, limited role) that Shelley would be benched in favor of said player and not kept around from these so called "intangibles" that he provides. - Hulk Stroganoff
Look at the total picture. Do you really think a different player other then Shelley would have played more tonight? Would have made a difference tonight? Who is that player?

Shelley had no impact on the game. He never does. He never does because he's an enforcer.
We didn't lose tonight because of Shelley. We lost tonight because the team decided not to show up again.

The same thing happens with the forwards. I see the whole team as culpable on most nights. For every bad clear by a defenseman, I can also see a half-assed back check by a winger.
I'm not saying that the defense doesn't have to start playing better, but it's not all on the defensemen. - Jsaquella
Everyone needs to play better. My only complaint is if your defenseman turns the puck over, its hard for your forwards to backcheck and be affective doing it. Your giving up odd man rushes and great scoring chances to the opposing team. Thats why I love teams that force the issue with their forwards. |

What is the trade....is it seriously JVR and a 1st for Schenn? - Just5
That's what one of the rumor guys was saying. JvR and a 1st for Schenn and something from the Leafs. Who knows if it's true or if it's BS. |

Listen, I'm not going to disagree with anyone who wants to trade for Weber. The guy is a monster on the back end. But there has to be a plan for the rest of the roster and there are ramifications to it. What would his Cap hit be? He's one player, just looking at him individually, that I wold be okay with signing a 10 year deal or so to have a lower Cap hit. - MJL
This team now needs to stop looking to the outside for help.
And start taking a hard look in the mirror.
They have the talent to do it. Do they have the will? |

Well, that's the thing, Nashville isn't going to give him away. If they are forced to trade him, expect about 29 teams to be interested. |

I know what it is but when the Flyers play like poop, I don't think Peter Laviolette is walking into the dressing room and ripping into Jody Shelley. Take one game at a time. Complain about the task at hand, until the next task.
Personally, I'm pissed because Giroux doesn't want to collect points anymore. He'll have his chances to put the puck in the net but then he'll pass the puck away.
I'm pissed because the Flyers show little interest in defending or playing smart as a team.
I could careless of Jody Shelley sits on the bench for the entire 60 minutes. |

Well if what you stated is true then thats on the coach. You have to make adjustments rather then allowing the same mistakes to happen over and over. |

I jokingly mention him when Giroux fought. I also mentioned him when Couturier got bumped in the first period.
My beef isn't with Shelley...it's with carrying a limited enforcer in the first place. |

You know, all of this stuff was supposed to be taken care of by Coaching changes. Trading the bad eggs in the room, etc. It still happens.

That's what I'm saying. One guy can't do everything. It really looked bad out there, unless Weber was gonna log 60 minutes I don't think he makes a difference. |

The guy I had in mind was Sestito, but I don't really keep up with the Phantoms, so for all I know he could be injured or just playing horribly. The only game I saw him play this year was against Dallas (I'm pretty sure), and he was pretty much beating the crap out of everyone on the forecheck. I don't remember if he fought, but I also don't care about that. I think someone who plays that style (consistently) is something that could really help this team right now.
As long as they are defensively responsible, and like I said, I don't know much about the kid other than that one game I saw. |

It is hard for the forwards when the defensemen turn it over. Conversely, when the forwards make a dumb cross ice pass into the teeth of the opponents transition game it's even harder for the defensemen to handle it, because the opposing team is now coming full speed from the red line in. |
