true enough, i just feel bad for that player if they do draft a d man....imagine the pressure on him to develope quickly lol after his rookie yr if hes not producing ppl will start the whole " fire the gm, trade the lousy bum" topic - codered
I'd rather take the risk of drafting a d-man than trying to get a Weber or Suter. Signing them is going to be difficult and trading for them is going to cost too much. |

We are not a desired destination for UFAs, making picking up Weber or Suter pretty unlikely. - rathagor
to be honest though, i dont think we really need a stud number 1 d man...send down petry peckham ect...and bring in some solid vets maybe a douglas murray or nik kronwall ect and i mean i think we will be just fine...our issue isnt so much scoring as it is defending...look at the hurricanes the yr we lost...or even the flames the yr they made it to the finals...even vancouver, other then maybe edler, had no realllll defensive threat...i think we should go with a solid d and play a team game rather then rely on one or two home runs..imo |

Great? 6. Crosby, Malkin, Stamkos, Datsyuk, Sedin, Toews.
Really good? A whole bunch ranging from Thornton to Kesler to Seguin. - Ben37
Id call Crosby, Malkin and possibly Stamkos elite. Possibly generational.
After that is great.
No matter how you classify, they're all better than anything we've had for years. Weight would be the last thats even close. Had Edmonton won in 2006, they would have been the first team in a long time to win without a truly great center. |

#Oilers are 13-12 against playoff teams, but 4-16 against non-playoff teams. Seems bass ackwards.

Elias is prodominatly a winger.
The rest are pretty darn low standard for "great" (at the times their team won the cup) |

If the oilers draft 2nd overall they should try to pry weber out of nashville before they go up on the podium!!!! rnh ebs and hall are going to cost enough money up front in the next few years |

Oh no, not at 4mil and the way he is playing Shultz out of Washington a far better idea. At least he has some upside and cheaper. |

id concur with Broten in 95, as he was at the end of a great career. still had a fantastic playoffs. the other ones are debatable, but Gomez and Elias were huge parts of NJ cup success.
Getzlaf was an absolute monster in Anaheims cup win. you thinking of the same Cup run I am?
In any case, NJ would be the lone and debatable exception. the exception, not the rule. |

Weber is not signed long term. How much do you suppose he will cost? |

That's BS and you know it. I said the Devils, the 95 incarnation in particular, would have the best example. The other two they had Elias and Gomez who really were big parts of their wins.
Ducks had Getzlaf. Again. You really can't argue that point. He was a monster that year.
Bruins had Kerjci and Bergeron. Debate if you like but they were both just a hair under PPG in the playoffs. highly doubt they win without them.

Seeing that Shultz has been a healthy scratch I hope the return is a touch better. |
