but heres the thing the team is down on the scoreboard and its the perfect time for someone to step it and fight someone and rile the team up.... and it should be shelley, thats why hes there. It shouldnt be our best player out there fighting and being off the ice for 5 mins. Thats why I didnt mind having carcillo or cote on the team because they always fought someone when the team needed to be re energized even if they got their face punched in.... Just like when talbot fought against carcillo in the playofffs and the penguins came back and won the game. Thats one of the reasons I hate having shelley in the line up so much because hes practically useless..... - Jack-Meoff
I dont get the idea that Shelley can just pick and choose who will fight HIM.. He can go out there, but teams know not to fight him. He (as Rupp so honestly pointed out) is completely irrelevant. No need to fight him.. it hurts your team when you do because you play into the Flyers hands. |

Thats exactly my point....there is no one out there to fight him....not alot of teams employ a "fighter" anymore....so having him in the line up is practically pointless.... |

First change that has to be made. Stop using the Giroux line head to head against other teams top line. Start there. - MJL
They threw several combinations at the Isles top line last night, none of which worked.
But generally, I agree with you. The Flyers don't have a center they can rely on to routinely keep other team's top players in check.

I'd be happy if they could keep from making routine coverage mistakes. Last night's first goal wasn't anything more than lack of effort on the backcheck. |

That top line has been scorching hot of late..
I think an adjustment to the lines is in store.. and I dont mean shift to shift changes, but prior to the game changes. |

yea but i would much rather have sestito or holmstrom on the fourth line....it makes that line so much more affective |

Terrible game over all.
Timonen had a pretty bad one.. which is rare. There were several plays where it seemed he just quit on the play after a strange bounce or what have you. Both the short handed goal, and the PPG were directly Timonen. |

I did not like what Ek insinuated about Voracek for a pick to make room salary wise. Granted we do not know the other half of the equation as to who would fill said salary, but I like Voracek. He skates hard and can change momentum when he gets going. |

Put Hartnell with Briere, and move Talbot up to play with Giroux and Jagr. |

Its Ek!
There is no reason to trade Voracek in a cap deal.. especially if there was a bigger deal following.. you could always use him in that as he is a RFA at the end of the year. |

Put Hartnell with Briere, and move Talbot up to play with Giroux and Jagr. - bradleyc4
I thought about that, but Briere and Hartnell scares me defensively, mostly because of the way Danny has been playing (for lack of a better word). I wouldnt be opposed to it though.. still would prefer Read on that top line with G and Jags.

On a positive note, thought Gustafsson was good again last night. I think the Flyers should give him a look on the PP rather then keep putting forwards out there. That plan hasnt worked yet time to adjust. |

Read's not a poor choice. He's solid defensively, just afraid of wearing him out. |

I think the big difference is that he is more than likely a bit more mentally tough than your average rookie. I dont worry as much about him as I do about a guy like MAB. He has looked scary bad (to me) lately. Not nearly as physical, his passing isnt nearly as crisp, is holding the puck way to long, etc.
It could also be a temp move until JvR gets back and then you could go with something like this...

The League has changed. It takes two to have a fight. A guy like Shelley risks putting the team shorthanded if he comes out and intigates a fight. Do you think Shelley isn't fighting by his choice? That he all of a sudden doesn't want to fight? |

It's not so much the mental toughness, but his body not being used to the grind of an 82-game NHL schedule. They only play maybe 35 games/season in NCAA? Against much lesser competition. |

I haven't been so excited about the Flyers 4th line in a long time. We have come a long way from
Dan Kordic, Dan Lacroix and Scott Daniels
