I would like Luke Schenn if Weber is impossible to get. By impossible, I mean not selling the farm or trading 2 current young roster players to get him.

I doubt Weber gets traded during the regular season anyway. You can get whatever you want for him as a RFA in the summer as well.

- Schenn2shine

I do, as well. There's no reason for the Predators to deal Weber in season, unless the return is too staggering to ignore.

They have a legit chance at the Cup as much as anybody. I'm not saying to forget this season at all, just saying not to be in a huge rush to go "all in" right now.

There's far too much future uncertainty to simply go out and trade for Shea Weber, unless the deal is so good that it'd be foolish not to. There's some serious ramifications to making a move.

1. New CBA. Right now, there isn't one. There could be changes coming. Some of the ideas seem like they'd help the Flyers in this regard, others would hurt. Some of the ideas that would be ideal for the Flyers is some sort of NBA style Amnesty Buyout, which would give each team a one time, cap hit free buy out of a contract. Another would be a modification that would allow "Over 35" contracts to be off the cap if the player suffers a career ending injury.

Some that would hurt would be an elimination of the bonus cushion and only allowing part of an injured player's contract to rest on the LTIR.

2. Pronger's status. Even if there's no changes to the CBA, Pronger's status is an issue. If he decides he can return, then his money is on the cap and there goes a lot of proposed LTIR exemption space. If he can't return and is going to be LTIR'd, they still have to carry him in the summer. Now they can spend 10% over the cap in summer, but his nearly $5mm hit will be a factor, as will Walker's $1.7mm hit.

3. Assets. The 2012 draft is a deep one. The Flyers could do a bang up job of restocking the farm, rather than surrender picks for rentals or expensive imports. Also, young players like Schenn, Couturier and Read can get playoff experience this year and be bigger pieces of the puzzle next year.

I think it's crazy to sell this team short. We lost Chris Pronger, which is huge loss on defense. We're expecting a number of rookies to play a big NHL role and on top of this, when we lose, it's normally us shooting ourselves in the foot. We're still high in the standings somehow. Why?

This is how I look at our Stanley Cup Run of 2010. We were good but we were also lucky. We might have had no business getting as far as we did because our 3rd pair was that bad. Can you imagine being Chris Pronger, Kimmo Timonen, Brayden Coburn and Matt Carle?

We were good but we were also lucky. With 8 teams making the playoffs in the east, you have to hope there are some upsets. We were the 7th seed, every team we faced outside of the Habs should have mopped the floor with us. If the Bruins didn't get as banged up as they did, they could have taken us out at anytime.

Bang on my brotha!

I want to keep the picks for this year. I would love for the Flyers to somehow aquire another 1st in this years draft.

The Flyers would be wise to restock they system and have the ability to fill out the roster for the next 5+ years with kids coming up through the system so when the youngers guys demand more money and some players need to be moved you have a way of replacing them.

At the same time when you trade that player you can afford to move him for younger cheaper guys because they would have the farm system to replenish the big club. Much in the same way Claude, Read, Z and Rinaldo helped offset the Mike and Jeff trades.

I am not against aquiring a player at the deadline or before but if it isnt an absolute no brainer I would rather the Flyers keep their 1st and 2nd round picks.

I'm not selling them short. I'm simply saying I wouldn't send a huge load of assets to Nashville for Weber or make a similar trade that creates potential weak spots.

Part of that is due to the cap uncertainty moving forward.

Just heard a great soundbite from Kimmo the captain about G. Something along the lines of he's pressing and he has to understand we are a team and we'll all help him as much as we can. He can't expect to be the best player on the ice every night. Everyone has ups and downs. He'll be fine.

I love Kimmo. I love G. I love Cooter. I love Simmer (I believe the boys call him that--Night Train doesn't trip off the tongue). I love Drej Meszy. I know Big Paul cannot fall in love with his players. That is why he is GM and I'm not. I can't even think of trades. It breaks my heart.

I like the vast majority of the guys on the team, too. There have been plenty of guys on the team over the years I felt the same way about. Unfortunately, sports are a business of change.

That said, I really don;t want a big splash made here. Ride the storm, see what the new CBA brings and then make your big moves.

I'm expecting a Captain to be named before the playoffs begin. I'm sure others have heard otherwise but take the season just after the lockout. Keith Primeau was lost to us the very same way Chris Pronger is to us now. We didn't know if Primeau was coming back until late that summer but Derian Hatcher was still named Captain before season's end.

do you really think its that absurd?

the eagles blew like 5 fourth quarter leads last year. they'll upgrade on defense. pretty much everything that could go wrong last year went wrong

they'll rally around andy like they always do and bounce bank

- Crimsoninja

Yes it is absurd. Go get a real quarterback and come see me.

FWIW, the only team that has scouts at the Caps-Canes game is the Rangers, per Chip Alexander, Carolina beat guy

Interesting, Maybe the Flyers got whatever they wanted, scouting wise, out of Gleason. Maybe now it depends on JVR getting healthy and what Homer might do eleswhere. The Flyers may go after Grossman as well. Hopefully if they Flyers do trade anything it can be had for a good trade and resigned..... Sucks Beauchemin got re-signed

I think he's faking to ensure he isn't traded.

In all seriousness I feel bad for the guy. His trade value has to be hurting a bit right now too. Sure would love to add a Subban, Scheen, McBain type player.

I don't see why many in the media think Voracek's trade value is so low. For Gleanson? For picks and prospects? Really? The guy is a workhorse and has amazing vision on the ice. He just isn't finishing but he is getting plenty of opportunities. While his cap hit next year is still unknown his potential is through the roof.

On a different note: MJL, last night you wrote that it was Jagrs fault for not picking up someone on the 2nd goal (I think). It was Jagr and Giroux that both had no one. Giroux was behind the net in no man's land and Jagr was lofting. I just saw the reply and the announcers are blaming multiple players.

The whole Voracek for Gleason thing was because a blogger suggested it'd be a good trade for the Canes. Nobody with any real access is suggesting it or reporting it.

I understand it's a small group. But if that is the value for him then no way I even consider moving him. The post was more to point out his trade value should be high. Really high. I also acknowledge he could use his size better.
