Next year there may well be a bonus cushion that will prevent having to do things like that. Since the CBA is expiring, there was no bonus cushion, which is why Schenn, Couturier and Bobrovsky's hits are so high. - Jsaquella
There is a ton that will be amended, removed, or created I think. |

Yes, but the difference between the two is that Bob actually stops pucks whereas Bryz makes lackadaisical efforts and flops around like a salmon swimming upstream to mate. - Flyer_Nation71

yea his agent gave him the boom boom in the rumpsta - bigmookalookie
Well, I would imagine that the agent takes a hit as well. Doesn't the agent gat a % of the take?
Or does the agent get a % of the total theoreticAL value of the contract regardless if the total value ever materializes? |

I wonder if the Flyers are going to spot 1 game for Schenn in the AHL to start next season just to drop his cap hit. This year it was justified as his camp wasn't so great, but I'd imagine next year he'll be penciled in as a regular out of the gate.
What a dumb bonus - eayost
The rookies cap hits are so high this year because there's no bonus cushion. That'll hopefully change for next season, making the EL deals much more cap friendly. |

Unless of course they take bonus cushions out of the CBA next year... You never know... |

Philadelphia's defensive zone coverages and breakouts were also lacking at key junctures of the game. Too many players cheated out of the defensive zone early and they were not alert to stretch passes by the Islanders, which allowed the likes of Tavares and Michael Grabner to hang out near the blueline for cherry-picking opportunities.
Until the third period, Philly was guilty once again of trying to make fancy plays when they would have been better served to keep things simple: Claude Giroux, Jaromir Jagr and Danny Briere were all among the prime culprits.
This is what's wrong with this team right now.
Giroux = 2g in last 15 games
Jagr = 4g in last 19 games
Voracheck = 3g in last 23 games
Briere = 6g in his last 23 games (one hatty in there)
Three of these four guys are/should be considered leaders on the team. The team will generally go the way it's leaders do. The fact we're getting some strong play from our young guns is a bonus.

And their leader on defense (Kimmo) had a really bad game too, lost the puck at the blue line that led to Bailey's breakaway, and took the penalty that led to the Isles getting the 4 on 3 that gave them their 3rd goal.
The leaders of the Flyers were completely outplayed by Tavares and Co.
Nice seeing you Tuesday, thanks for making the trek to the far end of the stadium! |

Trade them, Blow the team up before teams know the true value of the players BEFORE ITS TOO LATE!!! - bigmookalookie
It's somewhat normal to have one or two forwards on a team struggling at any given time. Bill has documented that Giroux's history is he struggles at this juncture in the season. But you need other guys, veteran guys, to step up and carry the load for a while. Carter did this for Richards a few seasons ago. Then Richards took his turn carrying the team. I'm most disappointed in what I've seen, or more aptly, what I've not seen, from Briere so far. Voraceck, while mostly a complimentary player, has also tailed off quite a bit in the past while. Jagr is doing pretty much what I thought Jagr would do. |

I don't really think you can fault Timonen too much there. Laviolette talked in the post game presser, about leaving guys vulnerable. And that's just what happened there. You give the puck to a point man with pressure right on him, he's in a tough spot there. Where was the rest of the team that competely left the zone and gave Timonen zero support there as he's back there by himself? Again it's decision making with the puck, and supporting each other. |

Also considering Jagr might still be dealing with a cranky groin, it's hard to expect him to play much better. Still seems to be laboring a bit.
They need better play all around. Guys need to step up. Good stuff. |

When Briere isn't scoring his defensive liabilities get magnified.
Voracek is not a great finisher, hopefully he will turn that around because he has the talent to get himself into good scoring positions.
Simmonds and Talbot are bangers and grinders, and shouldn't be counted on to carry the scoring load.
Not having Jvr play up to his potential for all the various reasons is hurting them now.

Those passes to guys covered at the point are like time bombs, I agree.
When the Flyers forwards play 60 minutes of tough D, and back check and support then the team will start winning again. |

It'll be interesting to see what Homer does with Voracek in the summer. He's certainly shown some flashes this season, but I think the thinking was they were looking for more of a finisher when they acquired him. We already have enough guys who prefer to pass vs. shoot. |

Sure you can fault him on that..I do anyway.. there wasnt anybody on him when the puck came to him.. he miss played it and than flubbed the pass.. he tried going right back to whoever it was that passed it to him on the wall. He could have sent a hard pass across the blue line but the fact that he miss handled the pass originally screwed him. That was not a case of giving a guy the puck who was already under pressure. I also give Bailey credit.. he pressured the original puck passer who sent the puck to Timonen, then also applied pressure to Timonen (who had been open originally) and collected the flubbed pass and broke out.
The penalty he took that led to Streits goal was equally brutal. He had a rare bad game, but it was on him. |

Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: 1/20/12 - bmeltzer
1. I thought Simmonds had a good game, he was pushing the puck and kept his feet moving.
2. Besides the one Giroux hit, the lack of hitting/checking was pissing me off...
3. Most of the shots on net were direct - no deflections, no screens, etc... The last game against the Wild they did a great job of this, and it completely dropped off last night.
4. They seem to be playing a 2-2-1 for the power play. The one defenseman in the middle on the blue line, with the next two high on the boards. The passes between these two are too close to the PK'ers. It seem to work when they rolled it out be teams are getting wise. I'm surprised that their hasn't been more SH goals. |

So whats the time line on his conky?
On another note, do you see the Jagr approach to avoiding hits? Never be the first to the boards, and if in vulnerable position, stick out gigantic ass as buffer. To optimize, keep twisting and turning in a small space so that opposing player can never count on a clear line that will avoid bouncing off ass. Result: I don't remember a single huge hit on Jagr this year. |

Like with any concussion, the player needs to have a series of days without symptoms before they can exercise/skate. When he skates at a high level without symptoms they allow contact in practice. If he feels good after that, then he can play.
I think Homer said he was symptom free yesterday after a light workout?
So hopefully this continues.
Best case would be after the break, but who knows.
One bad day sets him back. |
