Then who on Montreal's roster do you think they would trade for a struggling undersized Center like Derek Roy?!?! They are not giving up a young guy like Subban for Derek Roy. Both Gionta and Cole are aging veterans with ties to the WNY area that could bring leadership into a dressing room void of any signs of leadership. For you head scratchers, Gionta is a Rochester native and Erik Cole got a Stanley Cup in Carolina playing with Sabres position coach Kevyn Adams. If you disagree, make a valid point besides I see none of this happening... - Lord_Stanley716

Draft picks. - Pecafan Fan
Even that though... I mean, for example, what kind of Draft picks is Plekanec worth now, compared to what he would be worth in one of his average years.
I just think that Montreal should stand pat for the time being because they will be dealing from a position of weakness. |

I love that this has turned into a Myers and Subban thread, where does it even come from?
Buf and mtl are not making a trade of any kind, when was the last time it happened? teams don't trade within their own division, especially significant players, especially when they're next to each other in the standings. - habby

Teams typically don't make trades with division rivals because they don't want to face that player 6 times a season. It happens but it's rare. I don't see Buf and mtl making a trade, especially one including Roy. It doesn't make sense for either team. - habby
I would love to see Roy play against the Sabres 6 times a year. We would know exactly how to defend him and would take advantage of his many turnovers and shortcomings every single time.
Keep diving Roysie!!! I hear the pools in Montreal are nice! |

I know. But I bet secretly both GMs would like those deals reversed.

Not sure what is more amusing... the obviously bogus rumour or all the people trying to make trades around the bogus rumour, while poopting all over the other team's players and rating their own players with homer glasses on.
So much fun. |

no way. one poster said they wouldn't do this trade from a buffalo perspective. i don't think this would ever happen because the habs would be getting ROBBED.
i don't really think that there are many realistic trades between buf/mtl that make sense. our problem areas are too similar. |

I'm willing to bet that most NHL scouts know exactly what Plekanec can do on the ice regardless of how much he may struggle right now. The whole habs team is struggling, but that doesn't mean their players have no value at all.
He's on pace for a 55pts season... and he's struggling on a struggling team.
Leafs fans are praising Grabovski who's on pace for 50pts with career high of 58pts...
What is Grabovski's worth? Nothing? |

Buffalo should start dumping salary of the under acheiving players to other teams for sure. The more cap space we have available equals better chance of signing more free agents that might be better then what we currently have and also more draft picks. I could care less if it takes 2-3 years to build a new squad under pegula from scratch since I have faith he will do the best he can to build a dominating team. - Brockv
Agree 100% I think we all know Darcy isnt going anywhere so what does he do well? Drafts very very very well and not jus tin the early rounds look at the late rounds as well. http://en.wikipedia.org/w...uffalo_Sabres_draft_picks

No, we don't trade Plek just for the sake of trading him, we do it only if a team thinks he's the missing piece and offers us more than fair value. Same applies with all the other young(ish) guys. However, the aging vets and pending UFAs, we try to get as much as possible but trade anyway. No point in keeping them or losing them to free agency |
