rask was so pissed today when gaborik scored the OT winner. - hammarby31
I;m sorry I know he's got great numbers right now but to me he will always be the goalie that coughed up 3-0 series lead and 3-0 lead in game 7 of said series. |

Right now, if I was Holmgren, I'm leaning towards not doing a Goddamned thing. - Jsaquella
Agreed. Its highly unlikely the way things are going that the Flyers will have a healthy lineup, a trade would just be trading to try and plug a hole. If they can trade for a young player who they believe can be part of the future ok, please no rentals. |

I don't think I'd do anything this year that is remotely close to a rental type of guy. I'd only do something that made sense now and years down the road, if it was the right deal of course. |

Or at least make a deal on your own terms. There is time. - MJL
Absolutely. If the Bruins are willing to beat my offer for Tim Gleason, then he can enjoy Massachusetts for a few months. No skin off my ass. No way I get in a bidding war with half of my top six forwards nursing injuries. |

I feel a guy like Gleason heading into Free Agency shouldn't be worth anymore then a roster player of his caliber straight up or a second round pick. If the Canes want a second rounder and an average prospect at best, that's as far as I go, otherwise, they've lost their minds. |

I'm fine with a rental, so long as it's a cheap one, or is a guy they might be willing to re-sign and keeps. |

That is the trade deadline. Teams that are desperate overpay for solid guys that can fill a hole.
Well, what if Briere doesn't return this season? Or JvR? Well that's 33% of your top six up front. What if Jagr's groin nags him the rest of the year...you aren't replacing that at the TDL. |

If it costs the price of Ponikarovsky I'm ok with it. He's not great, but he's scored 20 goals four times, and when you take Cam Jansen out of your lineup and replace him with an eggplant it's an upgrade. |

That's exactly the kind of move you make in the Flyers current situation. You traded a bag of pucks for a guy who can fill in the top 9. |

We need D. We needed D a month ago. I'll say this, if the Canes want a second and Harry Z, my question is where do I sign? If they want anything beyond that for Tim Gleason, I hang up the phone. A second is a high pick as it is and Harry Z has a number of NHL games under his belt. Enough said.
EDIT
You also brought up this is a deep draft coming. That's a big offer in my opinion. |

yep. Who knows really how long Briere or JVR will be out. Concussions don't have timetables. If Holmgren can add a forward reasonably he might do it. Right now the Flyers are going to be playing without 3 of their top 9 forwards. |

I would have probably been willing to go that high prior to the JvR & Briere injuries. Now? I wouldn't trade Harry Z. |

That's why I can't trade a roster player right now. Say you move Harry Z in a Gleason trade. If JvR or Briere don't now you have to count on Shelley, Holmstrom or Wellwood in the playoffs.
Harry Z isn't really a proven NHLer, but he's proven more than Holmstrom or Wellwood. |

Can't even afford to give up Harry Z right now. He went from a healthy scratch today, to all of a sudden playing in the top 9 for who knows how long. |

If Tom Sestito can continue playing like he did while he was here last, I think he should stick around. It's mind blowing to me that he hasn't already. With all this talk for sending Shelley down, I no problem with that if Sestito comes up as a main stay. Since that hasn't happened, I guess I'm okay with Shelley sticking around. In Sestito, you're getting a younger, bigger and more skilled Shelley. For me that exchange would happen quicker then I can reach for a beer. |

Yes and no. We don't know where Harry Z will play tomorrow. Sestito has already played in the top 9 this season for the Flyers. |

Sestito is definitely more skilled than Shelley, but they worry about discipline. Sestito's been suspended twice in two different leagues this season, and both times were idiotic acts on his part.
During his call up, he did play solid hockey. But during the preseason, he was running around like an idiot.
At least with Shelley, you don't have to worry about him overpursuing and blowing coverage, or doing something that will make you short for 9 minutes. |

So has Harry Z. Zolnierczyk has played a much bigger role for the Flyers than Sestito. |

True. How deep do you want to dig down into the Phantoms? A trade of a forward and all of a sudden you have Shelley, and 3 Phantoms. That's a thin forward core.
The scary thing is all these injuries are piling up, it doesn't guarantee there won't be more. Would anyone be surprised if additional players were injured tomorrow? I sure as hell wouldn't. I'm almost at the point where I expect it. |

Let's not forget Shelley was suspended in the pre season as well. |
