For sure.
Was just my way of trying to put things in perspective.
There's just nobody on this team that I can see stepping to another level in the playoffs and become a "force" in all areas of the game. Anybody you could say is a stretch for sure. - Juice
Exactly. Things really tighten up in the post season, and that's where you REALLY need desperation and team toughness. For all the talk that we need "skill"... we need strong tough players with skill.
Burke needs to go back to the original blueprint. I'm not down for a team full of 5'11 forwards with speed.

Brown
Armstrong (almost left him out of this list because he pisses me off with injuries)
Phaneuf
Schenn
Macarthur
Kulemin
Frattin
Kadri
all can use the body in variance degrees(does that sentence make sense? lol) |

Finding a physical player with skill lots of skill. Isn't the easiest of tasks, to say the least. |

Too carried away with what though?
It's a terrible contract for a player that would cost the leafs a lot to trade for and he's not the #1 centre they need.
Just doesn't make sense for him to be in Toronto...or at least to me it doesn't. - Juice
the statement of yours that I underlined were you call carter 'garbage'.
he's a solid player, just not a fit for the Leafs. |

There's some on the back end, and then Brown on the fourth. But with Frattin down with the Marlies and Kulemin not really having that killer instinct... we definitely need one or two guys in the Top 9. |

Carter's garbage.
Terrible contract
Terribly injury prone
Not the type of centre the Leafs need. He's a scorer, they need a play maker
Spend the extra draft pick or prospect and get Getzlaf.
My interest level in Carter = 4/10 - Juice
Agree with this 100%.
My interest in Carter is probably about the same... 30-40%, but my interest in Getzlaf cannot be quantified on any scale.
There is very little I wouldn't give to land a guy like that.

Yeah, the club is no where near fine as it is.
Realized this to it's fullest yesterday in talks with Huddle...the current squad when compared to previous "almost successful" leafs teams is lacking:
No gritty, do whatever it takes, fight, cause havoc, 20+ goal scorer like Tucker
No lead by example, grind, fight, score 25+ goals player like Roberts
No #1 centre like Sudin
No #1 goalie that you can consistently rely on.
This team is the furthest thing from "fine as it is". And that's when comparing it to a squad that still was unable to win anything. - Juice
I know this horse has been thoroughly beaten, but I really don't think we need a traditional puck-moving #1 center. Kessel is as good if not better at setting up/vision/seeing the ice than most centers labelled "#1"
We need someone who is going to get in there and bang, work the boards and make room for kessel and lupul to do their thing. The catch is, they need to:
A- be able to keep up.
B- have enough skill to be a threat and put away the junk goals.
An example would be David Backes. Getzlaf is also of that ilk, though not likely available. |

There isn't one player on the Leafs other than Phaneuf that I wouldn't give for him. |

Yeah, garbage.
36 goals, 30 assists, +27 last year.
But the Leafs couldn't use him.
I'd much rather have Bozak as our #1 centre. |

I've been saying Mac needs to be moved for over a month now. I think he's run his course in Toronto. It seems he's slowly and methodically being pushed out. I wouldn't mind seeing him packaged with a d-man and a pick/prospect for a star-type forward. That forward is not Jeff carter however. He's having trouble with injuries and that contract is just way too long. I would love to see Grabo stay, but if they can't sign him to a new deal, better to trade him than lose him for nothing, like what happened with another skilled centre we used to have. If we can get the likes of Bobby Ryan, Ryan Getzlaf or even Zach Parise somehow, then do it. |

Perhaps a reason why a guy like Staal may be a better option than Getzlaf, as Staal is a bit faster....althought Id rather Getzlaf either way. |

Is it just me or are there Leafs fans out there that laugh out loud when Burke says he does not like like to circumvent the cap by signing players to long term contracts with minimal cash paid in the last few years when he has Jeff Finger buried in the minors collecting $3.75M?
Burke is circumventing the cap with Finger's contract |
