If stats were the big prize then that would be great.

not sure what your point is...

you're saying that no trades are worth making unless they improve your place in the standings?

Yes.

Franson is a clear upgrade over Lebda. Is this really that controversial or do you just get off on being contrarian?

Has it benefitted this team? That was your original statement. Or do you need me to send you back?

no one claimed at anytime that the franson, lombardi deal was supposed to be the catalyst that propelled the leafs into a stanley cup contender, but it did make them better

you dont go from crap to contender without walking the walk.. just another step along the path.. some are forwards, some are backwards and some are sideways

its just the way things go

Yes, it has benefitted this team.

Whereas before we had Brett Lebda, we now have Cody Franson, who has much more value to this team as a player and as an asset.

HH doesnt see the standings like we do. we see the numbers 1-15, where he just sees the number "playoffs" and "not playoffs". steady improvement doesnt exist, its impossible drastic improvement or bust for him

Bingo.

Is last year's first half debacle completely forgotten now?

We were around 11th or 12th at this time last year.

ok let's play here with Ek's new rumour

This is made to get us talking so let's have some fun...

Tavares, Moulson are both Toronto boys and Bailey is a key prospective talent as well.

Charles Wang is losing money and not a happy man. We know they were looking at Dipetro to retire for medical reasons to get out from under his contract. We know that insurance companies are not always quick to settle at full pop and would be looking for a deal, so that might not happen. Toronto has money and makes money from hockey unlike the majority of the league. We can bury salary. LTIR does not count against our cap. So what would they be willing to part with for the money? They have already screwed their fan base for some time. Who knows???

Discuss

the rumour is out of New York
- stevecarpetman

Imagine this:

To Leafs: Rolson, Dipetro, Tavares, Nabakov

To Islanders: Grabo, Kuli, Kadri or Colborne, Gardiner, Schenn and either Reimer or Scrivens

Snow likes young talent, and this would be something he would look for in return.

Not sure I would like to give up that much for Tavares, but it would make things semi-possible.

I am only playing here and asking everyone to add thoughts. This is against my whole philosophy on how the Leafs should proceed this season, but it's Tavares.

- stevecarpetman

Stick to being the Carpet man Steve. Give up on the fact that Tavares and Moulson are from Toronto it means squat, especially in a trade. If he wanted to go home that bad he wouldn't have re-signed before his ELC expired. You can have Bailey though.

Amazing that the leafs have no penalties in 5 periods lol. Refs noses are so far up Burke's butt it is laughable. Even when you guys are getting handed a game, you are failing lol. Pathetic.

It's a process....Oilers have drafted first several years in a row and they are still a bad team. Does that mean adding Hall and RNH didn't help the Oilers, because they haven't improved in the standings? Does that indicate they are okay with being last? Or does it mean that a rebuilding team will require many, many transactions over a longer period of time to see results?

Really? Steady improvement was 29th to 22nd last year. Thsi year supposedly upgraded in a whole bunch of areas and no one can convince me we won't be 22nd or lower with this lineup again.
