Doesn't anyone think that a BIG part in the decline in Mac's production if due to the fact that Kuli can't score on a pylon this year? Pretty sure 20+ of Mac's assists last year were from feeding Kuli...but that option is not viable this season.

These are the lines I would like to see:

Lupul - Bozak - Kessel
Mac - Connolly - Kadri
Lombo - Grabo - Armstrong
Kuli - Steckel - Brown

I think that the line of Mac, Connolly, Kadri had good chemistry before Bozak injury...and for some reason has not been put back together....

It was our conversation that put things in that perspective.

I already knew the team had a lot of work to do...but when we started reminiscing about previous squads and the tools they had...man, it was like a b*tch slap of reality that not only are they not close, they can barely see the door with the title "success" above it.

Ironic that this team has one thing those teams didn't though, a bevy of big blueliners (I loved Yuskevich, but he was the biggest we had), and an elite sniper on the wing. i.e. I take Kessel over Mogilny, and I loved Mogilny.

I think i take Lupul today over Roberts too.

My interest in Carter is probably about the same... 30-40%, but my interest in Getzlaf cannot be quantified on any scale.

There is very little I wouldn't give to land a guy like that.

Oh absolutely... He's the guy I target if I'm BB and give up a poop load of assets to get him. If he's not available (which I don't think he is) Then fine go for Carter but he's not the 1st line Center to play with Kess and Lup.

Bullpoop. If they think they can fill 115k seats at those prices, someone should give them lessons on supply-demand.

The team is not nearly as far away as some of you are making it out to be...but we're also not as close as I'd like us to be, either.

I think the mis-conception comes from this...the two pieces we are REALLY missing are almost impossible to find.

That being a 1C and 1G.

We have the tools to trade for one...but not to attain both...unless one hit's FA that is and we all know how likely that is to happen.

It's the biggest flaw Burke has in his plan...we saw it in Vancouver with his reliance on Danny Cloutier...even though he had Naz, Burt and Morrison (before his knee injury).

Burkie got lucky in Anaheim and this enabled him to do what he does best...insulate talent with talent. His problem was when he came here we literally had nothing to work with.

So instead of getting his core pieces (G and 1C) he took what he could in order to facilitate the build.

Now we're kinda stuck...we aren't going to finish low enough to get an impact player and we aren't going to have the prospects/players to trade for both.

So here we sit...

I didn't miss his point, he completely missed Burke's when he was discussing cap-circumvention.

I don't know what the asking price is but I was thinking today in class, if the Leafs can trade for Ruutu would a third line of Armstrong/Connolly/Ruutu be any good? I figured it would add more grit to the line up and the line would still pot a few for us at the same time. Again I don't know what it would cost us but that could turn our forward lines to potentially:

Lupul - Bozak - Kessel
Kule - Grabo - Kadri
Armstrong - Connolly - Ruutu
4th line

Thoughts?

Getzlaf is not being moved... If he was available, there are other teams who can outbid the leafs i am sure... but come on, can we get over the getz-wet dream
