Getzlaf is not being moved... If he was available, there are other teams who can outbid the leafs i am sure... but come on, can we get over the getz-wet dream - senstroll
Those who can, and those who will, are two different things. It's become a problem with leaf fans' psyche when we assume every other team will have better assets to give up. The Leafs will more than likely give up their prime prospects (and more than one) and draft picks for him. Most teams at the top don't even have the young assets to give up in quantity, and teams at the bottom won't part with their best young assets.
Teams in the middle, Ottawa would have to give up any combination of Zibanejad/Karlsson/Cowen/Noesen etc.; NJ would have to give up Larsson or Henrique+, Jets likely would have to give up Kane/Scheifele/Burmistrov. I doubt he goes to a Western conference team. So now with those teams mentioned, who has better assets to give that they're willing to part with? |

I have been to a few Marlies games at Ricoh and the most recent one at the ACC - Finger is not 8th or 9th on the depth chart - he is clearly better than Komisarek
- MTL1
So, you'll take both of them then? |

For M. Richards philly found a more enticing offer ... I dont know if BB had any interest in Turris, but they found a very good offer. Burke might value his players a little to high and demand more back, other GM's are not like that. So if Getz was on the market, I can see a few team offering a better package easily
edit: oh and the players you mentioned from Ottawa and NJ, look better than the players TO has to offer |

It may not be a Burke signing but it is a TML contract
Why doesn't Burke just put Komisarek in the minors to go after a big ticket player?
Would that be a good move on their part?
Burke also has circumvented the cap in the trade that brought Kolzig to Toronto from the Lightning - MTL1
Finger is an occasional scratch for the Marlies... he is not even a top 10 d-man in the Leafs system.
and no, Burke did not circumvent the cap in that trade. He took a salary dump for a draft pick. That happens all the time. |

It was more like...
Burke went to chat up the deal to his buds and then LA swooped in and offered more. I'm willing to bet Burke would have come back said yes and tried bidding a bit. I think Holmgren wanted to do it quick and found a package he liked. |

Komi and Finger are both good d-men - Finger played well in COL before he came to Toronto - Komi's issues stem from the large contract I believe - he has played outside of himself to justify such a contract
If Komi was signed to $2.5M/yr that would be more palatable - same with Finger at $2M/yr
Finger has always looked good when I have watched him at Ricoh for the last 2 years |

No, I'm suggesting that Burke could have gotten in on it but Holmgren moved quicker than normal.
You're REALLY undervaluing Kadri, Colborne, Gardiner, etc. |

Luckily for him there's a possibility we have one of the goalies in the system. - Brian Huddle
That's just it...I think he looked at our goalie landscape and decided if I can't get one can't miss prospect I'm going to assemble a ton of mid range ones and hope something sticks.
You do what you can with what you have...and we needed to put our picks towards restocking a bare skater group...so signing international and college FA's was one of the only options left.
I'm sure we explored trading for the likes of a Bernier or Schnieder but the cost would've been way too prohibitive for us at the time.
Pat Quinn might've had his short comings in terms of bringing kids along but he understood one thing very clearly...you don't win without top echelon goaltending. Period.
The question becomes what to do at the position though...do we wait for one of the kids to step up and take the reins (like they were praying for Reimer to do) so that we can make the move for a 1C...or do we chance that someone in the next calander season won't make the necessary step and go out and get one? |

He put Kolzig's salary in the AHL - if Kolzig's contract was on the books they would have been over the cap - Kolzig was also injured - who trades for an injured goalie at the deadline? |

Not when he's a healthy scratch in the AHL and injured regularly. |

Uh, no he didn't. Leafs had lots of cap room and put him on LTIR because he was hurt and Tampa couldn't pay a hurt goalie....
