Clarke was the best. Not much of a filter - nastyflyergirl
I haven't forgiven him for the Sharp trade.
Perhaps it's time for me to get over it. |

If Sharp asked for the trade, I think you should be upset with Sharp. |

In instances when he can't get a translator, I'd love to see him feign language difficulty.

Tommy Soderstrom once told the Inquirer's Diane Pucin with a totally straight face and in virtually unaccented English, "Sorry, I don't speak any English. Ask Roo."
I don't think Bryzgalov has been "lousy" this season so much as extremely inconsistent. Teams rarely win in spite of subpar goaltending/team D (which inevitably start to feed into one another before too long). Bryzgalov and the Flyers have been no exception.
In Bryz's 19 wins, he's given the Flyers what they want/expect of him: 2.08 GAA and .929 SV%. The issue has been that, in his 14 losses, he's definitely been part of the problem (4.27 GAA, .843 SV%).
Same thing goes for Bobrovsky. In Bob's 12 wins, he has a 1.73 GAA and .937 SV%. In his 7 losses, it's a 3.70 GAA and .891 SV%. Games like the loss to the Islanders -- where the goalie is spectacular and the team still loses convincingly -- don't happen too often nowadays.

They both suck.
EDIT: Maybe Ek really is on to something with Nabakov. |

I'm sorry, when a player asks for a trade, I was unaware that they had any say of who they are traded for. |

Hitch had something to do with it too. as much as that trade sucked, he had some good ones. the one I hated was trading good guy Manderville for scum bag Tibbetts but hating that trade was not hockey related

If everyone can see into the future, you might be right. It's easy to make these sort of comments 6 years after the fact. |

of what i remember, Sharp knew that he wasn't getting a lot of playing time so either he or his agent asked Clarke to see if they can make a trade. At the time the Flyers were a veteran team so Sharp wasn't going to get playing time.
he went to Chi town and for the first couple of years, the team really sucked. This allowed Sharp to play and to grow...learn the ropes sort of thing...
it paid off in 2010...sad to say...
Those lean years allowed Chi to draft Toews and Kane as well...
to whom he got traded for...just didn't work out...
but Clarke has always been a type of GM to help a player out if it didn't hurt the team in the near future. We can all argue and say that it did hurt the team...but it took a few years to see that. |

Hitch definitely had his hand in it for sure. Tibbetts wasn't exactly a model citizen. Tough guy to root for. |

If you look at Matt Ellison's numbers back then compared to Patrick Sharp, Rene Bouque and Tumo Ruutu, Matt Ellison had the best NHL point production. In fact Ellison was the better playing in the deal at the time. Clarke took a shot and he missed. |

I am merely suggesting that the reason people are mad about the trade is because we got a guy who put up 1 point in a Flyers uni, while Chicago got a guy who has put up 170 goals and 341 points... |

i just don't think Ellison was brought in to be included on the big boy roster. he was going to go to the AHL. A depth guy...
yeah Clarke shot and missed. |

Every trade is a risk. There is no way of knowing what a player is going to do when we bring them in. Case and point Ilya Bryzgalov. |

They also got picks in the deal that ended up being Matsumoto and Kovar... total bust of a deal. Cant blame Sharp for that. |

Yes you can. Sharp wanted to trade to begin with. He didn't want to be here. |

Terrible case in point.
Name another trade where the two main players are separated by 170 goals and 340 points. |

So because a guy doesnt want to be here... you trade for a guy you are gonna stash in the AHL?
Im sure there are plenty of guys in the NHL right now that dont wanna play for the team they are on, maybe have suggested getting traded.. yet havent been moved.
At the end of the day, it is one of the worst trades in franchise history. |
