Yes and no. I believe we could take Det/Chi.
Im scared poopless of St Louis
Kesler can take Nashville single handily....again.
It will all come down to match-ups, mind you this is a post season discussion, one in which you all have no place in. - Whiskey-Tango
you should be scared sh!tless of st. louis...you won't get past detroit either
of course, when the going gets rough, you can resort to the ole standby:

A fan of neither team can't decide who could beat who in a playoff series? There are several reasons why you have no place in this discussion, yet, here you are. What a pathetic argument.

all time looks like we have 27 playoff appearance, and you have 23. We've been in the discussion more than you have
--Therefore are more qualified to let you know what will happen!

Ok, Ok.
We can talk about something relevant then...
Talking match ups in consideration with Buffalo, who will win the first pick?
Buffalo, Oilers, CBJ, NYI, MTL,?
If the goal is to win a cup in 3 years, no. 1 draft pick will help as a means to acquire talent. With it looking more likely that we'll draft top 5, that pick is as good as a top 6 player. If we want return now, find a trade partner willing to draft in the top 5. Best example is Kessel for a number 1 pick a few years back. Maybe the Avs would be willing to deal or maybe Anahiem. As for Darcy, end of the year is perfect timing for his dimissal. Bringing in new GM then, makes sense. More choices, more time to evaluate and with what could be a long off season more time for new GM to make necessary changes. With labor uncertainty NHL may go the route of NFL and suspend free agency. Plus who knows what salary cap or free agency will be when agreement reached btw NHLPA and owners. For now make cap space for next year. - bflodukes
Disagree strongly with the end of the year being a perfect time to fire Darcy. The perfect time was before the season. However, the next best decision is to fire him TODAY. We need a real GM to handle the trade deadline. The Sabres should be sellers, and this GM can't sell anything.

It's not a good idea to bring a new GM in during the season. They feel forced to make changes for the sake of making changes. It also makes the team a target to other teams. You don't want someone to come in and sell off pieces just to make changes. That's not a good idea.
That's feasable. But only if they don't think they can resign him. If he's on the market, the asking price is going to be pretty steep. - keptupl8
Ageed. Then let our UFA's hit the market and in the off season deal from our depth. Move what you can now since teams will need rentals, Boyces and maybe Goose. Trade for later round picks 2nd or 3rds which is where you find talent who try to prove themselves. This would make up for trading away the 1st round pick

Would you think it is a better idea to keep an inept GM around and blow an opportunity to acquire good young talent? A guy who refuses phone calls from GM's looking to make trades?
I think keeping Darcy around even five more minutes is simply insane. If you think the players are worth keeping, then I can see it.

There would have to be someone else lined right up who already is in tune with the pulse of the league. As much as I hate the thought that we need to bring back every former player, Dudley may be the best candidate.

Do you have some sort of spy cam in his office that tells you he's refusing phone calls from other GMS?
Making changes for the sake of making changes isn't always a good thing either. If you bring a GM into this situation right now, you're essentially setting them up for failure. You're forcing his hand and that's not a good idea.
