Im not so sure I want more draft picks if Darcy is still in charge. I was just looking a the past several years drafting & it's average at best.
2009 got us Kassian, Foligno & McNabb. While promising talents, it's hard to judge yet.
2008 got us Myers, Ennis & Adam. ONE decent draft!!!
2007 is below average (Brennan, Tropp) 3rd line & 5/6 dman at best.
2005 & 2006 were pretty much busts & those are the players you would hope would be playing on your team now. (except Enroth, Gerbe & Weber)
2004 was average. (Staff, Sekera, Kaleta)
2003 was a bust besides Vanek.
Our #1 picks from 2003-2008: It's too early to look at 2009-2011.
Vanek, Stafford, Zagrapan, Persson, Brennan, Myers.
That is why the Sabres will not win a cup. You can't hit on 2 of 6 first picks.
So eveyone wanting to stock up on picks, you may want to rethink that if the current regime is making the draft decisions. |

How about letting a different GM make the draft picks?
Incidentally, I actually don't think that Darcy is that bad with his drafts. It's the one thing I think he does half well. He just fails in every other respect. |

That's the problem. All the drafts have been "half well" at best.
I want drafts that are "full well".
Having a first round pick work out 1 out of 3 drafts is unacceptable. THAT should be the easy pick. |

Problem is that first round picks generally don't pan out that well. Look over the last ten drafts. Usually, the first 2-3 picks are blue-chippers. After that, it is totally hit and miss.
That said, I am not defending Darcy and I think he should be fired yesterday. |

For the sake of argument, that either proves that Darcy is a good drafting GM, or that he is a guy who refuses to part with home-grown talent.
I think the answer is somewhere in the middle. |

Erhoff is not the problem and neither is 4 mil a year. If the d would gel he would be fine doing his thing at 4 mil a year. And you know if the sabres didn't want him around past3 years he will be gone. - msillen
Erhoff will be the best defenseman on this team for years to come... I guarantee you that! |

I'll give you the Burke one.. but is Bucky really going to be your source of information on how Darcy does his job?
I'll agree it is time to move on, but Bucky needs to say how he knows that, not just say it cause he thinks it is true. - UncleTerry
I didn't bring up that Darcy doesn't return calls. The comment was more directed at Goose.
She said, "you have your "sources" and I have mine." That implys that he didn't have a source at all so she didn't need one either.
Her post was that Burke wouldn't let Dudley go before the end of the season. She didn't have a souce because there isn't one. That's her speculation. I have heard interviews with Brian Burke where he was asked about his stockpile of assistant GMs. To paraphrase, he said that he would not stop any of them from taking another opportunity. I'm not going to hunt down that interview just to provide a source, but that's what the man said. Zero speculation.
The Burke interview is proof that Darcy is difficult to deal with, which doesn't prove the phone call comment, but it adds credibility to it. I just wanted to provide something that could be considered a source, be it good or bad. It's still better than just throwing out speculation and opinions. |

I hope Tyler Myers disagrees with you, or else he is even more overpaid than I thought. |

Figuring out if 18 y/o's are going to project in the NHL is never easy if you ask me. The draft is a crap shoot, IMO. |

Last year the top priority was to draft a center. At least Sundher has a shot at being an NHL center. I think the only way Catenacci makes it is on the wing. |

The kid has Wheels and can handle the puck with ease.... We will see.. But all three I think have a serious chance to be NHL players.... |
