good stuff and bang about Cooter IMO.
I really hope the Flyers feel if they need a D upgrade that they do a lot of homework and are very smart if they move a JVR/Schenn. It can't be a rental if either is moved.
I'd rather they didn't but Homer and co have shown they have no fear in making a big splash.

Yep. Can't move Couturier. Kid's going to be a stud. The way he processes a game in his head is incredible for his age.
I agree. I don't want to see a big splash move with a young player leaving, unless they're getting either a top of the line player or a similar package of good youngsters back.
If they go after a top of the line guy, I cringe at the salary implications. |

I would try to get 2 dmen- one Hal gill type for a draft pick/minor prospect and the young ascending type like OEL for schenn +. the younger guy might have to wait until the off season.
the prices for a guy like Gleason are getting too rich for my liking. |

The Canes are in a weird spot where they almost have to be buyers if they want to move some UFA's.
Rutherford has said he has no interest in just straight up adding picks for Ruutu or Gleason. He's more interested in adding a forward on a decent contract. Won't make a trade where he gets a 1st rounder if he has to take back an overpaid player. |

The seeming price for Gleason-some have said a 1st rounder +-have me losing desire in adding him very quickly. If I'm the Flyers the highest I go is a 2nd rounder and a kid like Zolnierczyk. If that doesn't do it, I go elsewhere or stand pat. |

Why deal McBain or Faulk? Trade Spacek, Gleason, Allen and Ruuttu because they are UFAs. Don't trade kids like McBain and Faulk who will mature with the young Brund'Amour replacement.
I don;t necessarily get the whole trade a kid for a kid process. If you have good youngsters on EL deals, why trade them for anything? |

There is absolutely no reason to trade either of them. Especially not Faulk. We also have OHL d-man Ryan Murphy coming up soon (31 goals, 77 assists for 118 points in his last 92 OHL games) and Justin Faulk's team USA D partner in Brian Dumoulin.
Somebody will overpay for Gleason.
We MUST take salary back to stay above the floor.

Teams that have you ascending types like OEL are very reluctant to trade them for obvious reasons. Maye another Coburn type may be available. But a top young defenseman like OEL, is not very likely. Not impossible, but very unlikely. |

well, in PHO for example, you just acquired runblad and the org has needed a center forever. in MTL, maybe they've soured on subban. those are just some examples. |

Yep.. and that's the conundrum. Unless the Canes get somebody to overpay for Tim, they're content to hold off and potentially have him walk at the end of the season.
This is where Rutherford's policy of not discussing contracts until the end of the season is kind of a hindrance. |

so iow, the org has a surfeit of d prospects but the cupboard is bare in forward prospects. that's when you decide which dman you would be willing to part w/ and get the forward you need. |

Based on contract, age and team needs moving ahead, if I am Phoenix and you ask for OEL, I want Couturier. You say no, I hang up.
He's on a EL deal, and he's only one of 4 NHL defensemen that they have signed for next season. He's exactly the kind of guy that a team like Phoenix doesn't trade. |

Montreal has said that Subban isn't being traded. Whether that is true or not, who knows?
Even with adding Rundblad, Phoenix still has spots open on defense, and OEL is a good all around guy. Rundblad is more an offensive guy, which would make me think Yandle is a better comparison for his skill set. |

that's where a guy like L schenn comes in. for jake, maybe, but if JVR is involved Kadri would have to be returning as well, but even then...JVR will likely be the best player in the deal. |

Getting salary back isn't really an issue. Every well heeled team has a contract or two that it could add to the mix to help the Canes cap wise. If they're just looking for cap filler, they could take guys like Shelley or Matt Walker from Philly, or even Wade Redden from the Rangers. |

Are they real examples, or just possible scenarios. As in has Montreal soured on Subban? Because we aren't playing fantasy Hockey here. |

If I was Phoenix, I wouldn't even do it for Couturier. Defenseman like OEL are tougher to get then quality forwards like Couturier. |

examples, scenarios...semantics. I am proposing examples of the types players that a guy like schenn might fetch and if you don't like it or consider it "fantasy", it is your right to ignore my post. |
