so iow, the org has a surfeit of d prospects but the cupboard is bare in forward prospects. that's when you decide which dman you would be willing to part w/ and get the forward you need.
- isaiah520

The Forward that we NEED is a veteran top 6 Right Wing. Sure, we could trade Jamie McBain, but why? We have our core forwards (Staal, Sutter, Skinner) and our #1 goalie, so why not build around our up and coming d-men?

None of these 3 have gotten a fair shake at the NHL level yet. Boychuk has the most NHL games, but spent the majority under Maurice, who refused to give him more than 4 minutes a night regardless of how effective he was.

Zac Dalpe: 39 goals, 42 assists, 81 points in 96 AHL games. 22 years old
Zach Boychuk: 49 goals, 79 assists, 128 points in 149 AHL games. 22 years old
Jerome Samson: 121 goals, 131 assists, 252 points in 299 AHL games. 24 years old.

examples, scenarios...semantics. I am proposing examples of the types players that a guy like schenn might fetch and if you don't like it or consider it "fantasy", it is your right to ignore my post.

Is there any information, rumours, speculation....semantics, pointing in any way to Montreal souring on Subban?

Does Ruutu in you view fit that profile of a veteran top 6 Forward?

according to capgeek the #Flyers have $5.4 in room right now

They'll do something soon, they can't help themselves.

Yep. If I am Rutherford, him and McBain are non starters, unless I'm getting another top young defenseman back.

schenn, gusty and...

I'm just throwing these out there as an alternative to getting raped in the UFA mkt. im wondering how likely is this amnesty scenario?

No one knows for sure, but in my opinion, an Amnesty scenario is very unlikely.

I'd rather get raped in the FA market than getting raped in a trade. You sign a bad contract there ways to bury it in the AHL at least. You trade Schenn and he turns into a star, you really (frank)ed up.

conflicting reports and the unpredictable nature of gautier make it seem possible. subban has def maturity issues.

The owners, especially the big market ones, seem to really want it badly.

The thing is, it'd be a one time thing, not a device that teams could use every year.

He'd be an upgrade on Carle for the PP, maybe, but a downgrade in all other areas.

I'm just more comfortable trading young players for young players whenever possible. enuf lead weight FA contracts can retard an orgs progress for yrs. we potentially are strapped w/ pronger for many yrs - which effects our ability to make off season moves- and we already were in a max contract situation that cost us nodl. not a big deal there, but you can only have so much dead weight.

To clarify, that 5.4M isn't Cap space. That is the full Season Cap hit the Flyers can take on right now. Keep in mind that that number is going to be reduced when the Flyers call player(s) back up after the All Star break, such as Harry Z.

Subban is what 22 years old. Comes with the territory. I haven't seen any credible information that leads me to beleive that they have soured on Subban.

They did something like that, when the Cap was first put in. But that's the big difference. It was new. They had to give teams some kind of mechanism to get under the Cap, wheh they were operating in a non cap environment. Every team has been operating under the cap for 6 years or so now. I'd be surprised if there was any type of buyout without cap implications.

They havn't. The media just likes to stir poop up. He's having an average season but people forget he's only playing in his second season. He's expected to be our #1 d-man at 22 years old. Not much room for error.

I agree. And 22 is very, very young for a defenseman.

The 2nd period benching the last(?) game couldn't have helped, but he's got to learn to keep his elbows down, esp on a PP.

The last game Cooter made a blind ill advised cross ice pass at the offensive blue line and I was SHOCKED! It stood out so much to me because I was just not used to seeing him make that kind of play.

It showed me two things actually, 1) that he was starting to really gain confidence in himself to even attempt to make a play like that, and 2) How quickly he got back in to the right defensive position to minimize the mistake.

It was a pass we have seen Giroux, and Hartnell miss on a million times so that really wasn't a big deal. The impressive thing was how fast he recovered and got to where he needed to be to minimize the impact of the mistake.

You cant teach that.

didn't he just say no.

Really, if the conversation is not to your liking you're free to start another topic or find something else to do with your time. Picking fights is just as disrespectful as calling names.

Agreed. He's got to learn from those mistakes. My point is, if the Habs had more (or any) depth on the D, they wouldn't have to give him that much ice time. He and Gorges are the only two that should be considered top 4 defensemen.

But yeah, Subban will learn from those mistakes. Being a star in a crazy hockey market isn't always easy at 22 I guess.

I was simply joining in the conversation and asking a question. And discussing the topic of Subban. Is there a problem in doing that?
