Agreed. He's got to learn from those mistakes. My point is, if the Habs had more (or any) depth on the D, they wouldn't have to give him that much ice time. He and Gorges are the only two that should be considered top 4 defensemen.
But yeah, Subban will learn from those mistakes. Being a star in a crazy hockey market isn't always easy at 22 I guess. - Subban_76
Oh, he's definitely been rushed into that role by depth issues. He's got the raw talent, for sure; just needs to harness it, and that comes with experience.
You think the Habs are going to be patient with him?

I think the fans need to be just as patient. God knows we have seen that enough in this town. I can only imagine what Montreal is like.
I am still a bit disappointed the Sens passed on Couturier and picked Zibanejad. Zibby will be solid, but I think Couturier has that "it" factor to be a franchise player. The Flyers lucked out big time snagging him.

They did something like that, when the Cap was first put in. But that's the big difference. It was new. They had to give teams some kind of mechanism to get under the Cap, wheh they were operating in a non cap environment. Every team has been operating under the cap for 6 years or so now. I'd be surprised if there was any type of buyout without cap implications. - MJL
Those were compliance buyouts, which allowed the numerous clubs that were over the $39mm cap to get under it.
The Amnesty buyout is borrowed from the NBA. It's two fold benefits make me think that it's got a good chance of happening. It helps teams get a bad contract off the books and off the cap. It allows players who signed a big contract to still reap the majority of the contract's value and play in the NHL to have a better chance at earning another deal.
Think guys like Wade Redden and Matt Walker wouldn't like to be getting a buyout check from the Rangers and Flyers, while playing for another NHL team?
From what I have read, enough owners like the idea of a one time, one use amnesty buyout. It's not like the compliance buyouts, where teams could ditch 3 or 4 guys. It's one contract for the life of the CBA in the NBA. That's what I think the NHL will do.

good stuff and bang about Cooter IMO.
I really hope the Flyers feel if they need a D upgrade that they do a lot of homework and are very smart if they move a JVR/Schenn. It can't be a rental if either is moved.
I'd rather they didn't but Homer and co have shown they have no fear in making a big splash. - Buts16
Maybe it's time for Homer to to try and just tinker, a big splash doesn't always help.
You know, at the end of the day, whether it's Kane or Brian Campbell, the fact that these guys actually take time to do this shows why NHL players are by far the best.

Love Shania, but Hayley Williams from Paramore likes to rock the Flyers shirts!
Cooter is fantastic. I can't believe he got so far down to 8th. He's beyond what I thought he could be this fast.

Don't overpay with youth for a temporary fix. If a Schenn or JVR or a 1st pick goes, to me it has to be for a Weber type deal. I'd also consider a 1st for Suter as long as we can sign him, but I think he's going to go UFA and we might be able to have him for nothing but cap hit.

So Suter says he doesn't see any benefit of signing a new contract before the trade deadline. . . . . . allow the trade speculations to commence. - kgrpitt
He'lll just go UFA then. If he doesn't want to talk contracts with the Preds midseason why would he want to with the Flyers or anyone else?
I refuse to trade JVR or Schenn for a quick fix. Homer should look for defensive depth using picks. Face it, we're as young as we're going to get while still being competitive. I would like to see this core of players around for the long haul. I'm not giving away players and picks for Weber, or Suter (especially since he won't sign an extension right now).

Yea, great for the players, but how does that hold down spending for the NHL. It increases spending on salary. I hope your right, but I have my doubts.

I said it before and I'll say it again, Cooter's hockey smarts are the best I can remember seeing from any 18/19 year old rookie in recent history.
Yes Jordan Staal had a fantastic rookie season but I think Cooter will be an even better two way forward. His ability to read plays on both sides of the puck is amazing.
Nice removal Mr. Meltzer or who ever the mod is here!
Sorry for wanting to get a Flyer fans opinion on Matt Read.

Pretty sure it wasn't Bill.
It is pretty weak, but I guess your blog site is in direct competition with HB.
