Yeah, see I don't get this. The object of playing a sport is to win, at least in my life. All things being equal, I would rather win.
Now I wont defend the way Carter acted after he got there, but saying you cant understand why he was pissed, that after signing a cap friendly deal to play in hockey heaven, he was sent to hockey hell, makes no sense to me.
Millions of people also take less money, to work at a place they love. It goes both ways. This was Carter....
I guess I just don't understand the Jason Werth mentality, or the mentality that seems to pervade this place, that you would rather take more money and lose, or that you cant feel bad about making lots of money, playing a game where the object is to win, going to place where you know you will lose constantly.
I would rather win. I would rather enjoy my job. I would rather like where I work. Money is secondary.
I guess Ill never get the other side of this. Hey I have all this money, but I hate what I do, hate where I do it....believe me, it wears you down. - MBFlyerfan

Why would doctors look at someone's neck when dealing with a head injury? Are you serious? - PLindbergh31
You don't have to be inept to miss something in a neck CT immediately after the injury. My neck injury didn't become obvious until years after the initial insult. And there's really no difference in the end result. Slow leak or fast, there's nothing they could do to save the disks.
Don't dump on the Camero... It, along with all muscle cars are a part of Americana. Muscle cars defined generations of our youth. I'd like to see you pop the hood on your Prius and try and work on it with your son... - RooNosHockey
Tell it to the skipmeister. You don't have to sell me on Auto Americana.

I understand that things can be missed. When you have a world class athlete involved you would hope the team treating him wouldn't miss things such as fractured vertebrae. Sounds like he may not even have had the tests that would be required to identify such an injury.

I disagree he isn't that good. And this news is NOT good for the Flyers. Yes, I too am happy we aren't overpaying for him but that is one less D man on the market. All other D men's values just went up. Supply and demand. - coffee junkie
it also means he's not going to a rival, like the rags, who were rumored to be interested in his services.

There is also this. And wasn't the injury already healed by the time they discovered it? While it probably happened when he received his concussion, there is no guarantee the C1, C2 injury occurred then.
People here think that the flyers medical staff stink. I would think it's prudent to check the neck as well with any head injury. - bird_dog
Ferraro said as much this morning. He said he was shocked that the neck thing was missed being that Sid has been to at least 3 specialists now. The team doctor might have missed something like this on a first examination or x-ray, but for the specialists to have missed it he said that the team would not be pleased at all.

May not be applicable in Carter's situation, but what is winning? Making 50K a year, living in smaller house, and sending your kid to public school while being at a job that makes you happy; or making twice that, living in a larger house, and giving your kids the best opportunities to succeed at a job where you aren't as happy?
