I'm not sure if Jeff Carter would feel bad for me if the roles were reversed so I am withholding my opinion. - wilsonecho91
i know really the guy wasn't performing and he got dealt only has himself to blame
maybe if he was putting out effort and scoring 40 goals a season he wouldn't be there |

Exactly. People get fired or laid off work every day, after they commit to working for a company for the rest of thier lives. At least Carter still gets his pay check. - RooNosHockey
My Dad has worked for 19 years at Sunoco Oil Refinery in Marcus Hook... I, unfortunately, know first hand how that works. On Friday one of his buddies who he has worked with all 19 of those years suffered a heart attack while at work.. just a little while after he got into an argument with HR about not getting his full retirement benefits.. He died at work. |

I don't think too many would argue that point. But I think MJL's point was that Gleason's game is comparable to Coburn's. The style of play and what they bring to the ice is similar. It's a good comparison, whether or not Coburn has scored more goals. - bradleyc4
Gleason is a stay at home dman...
Coburn has the talent to be a solid 2 way defender...
I dunno... maybe i'm nitpicking...
I just don't see the two playing similar styles.

He can score 100 goals a season for all i care... you need to show up for the playoffs.
Yes i understand injuries happen, but it was always a little funny with the timing of all his injuries. Never during the regular season... always during the playoffs.

yea i was going to touch on that too but it was pretty much a given carter was a playoff nobody
he should be happy he's in columbus and doesn't have to worry about the pressure of not performing in the playoffs |

I dont know how their game is comparable though. Gleason is a smaller guy (6' 210lbs) who plays a rough hard nosed defensive game. He isnt even a 2 way d-man let alone an offensively gifted one.
Coburn on the other hand is a huge d-man (6'5'' 220lbs) who skates extremely well, has a very good first pass, can play big minutes, kill penalties and QB a power play..
With the editions of Pronger and Meszy.. his game changed. He didnt see the PP time he had.. (in his first full season while seeing regular PP time he had 5 goals and 10 assists). He was paired with Timonen a lot and you could see them trying to change him into a more reliable defensive d-man. |

hard to compare us regular folks to athletes. 5 million a year and playing on a losing team is drasticaly different than our lives. I think if someone paid you 5 million, you should be able to find some way to be happy about playing in columbus. there's being happy and then there's being spoiled. - funmaster18
I lived in Columbus for 2.5 years and it would take about 5 million per to get me to ever consider living in that poophole again |

In 43 playoff games.. he has 13 goals.
For a goal scorer thats bad.
Umberger in 26 games has 19 points.
Bah.. this is such a stupid topic.. who even cares about carter anymore... i'm over it

This is really aweful, but if there is any bright side, his family will be getting full benefits, plus full life insurance payouts. I know that is no replacement for a father/husband, but at least the man can rest in peace knowing his family will be taken care of. My prayers go out to this man's family and friends. |
