He can score 100 goals a season for all i care... you need to show up for the playoffs.
Yes i understand injuries happen, but it was always a little funny with the timing of all his injuries. Never during the regular season... always during the playoffs. - archion113
Except that ear injury in Dec. 2005 or ankle injury in Dec. 2006. |

Gleason is a stay at home dman...
Coburn has the talent to be a solid 2 way defender...
I dunno... maybe i'm nitpicking...
I just don't see the two playing similar styles. - archion113
Coburn's game is trending towards stay-at-home defenseman, IMO. He has the speed to carry the puck out of the zone on a counterattack, but the rest of his offensive game never really developed. |

In 43 playoff games.. he has 13 goals.
For a goal scorer thats bad.
Umberger in 26 games has 19 points.
Bah.. this is such a stupid topic.. who even cares about carter anymore... i'm over it - archion113
i mean all the facts point to him being crap not much to discuss |

I dont know how their game is comparable though. Gleason is a smaller guy (6' 210lbs) who plays a rough hard nosed defensive game. He isnt even a 2 way d-man let alone an offensively gifted one.
Coburn on the other hand is a huge d-man (6'5'' 220lbs) who skates extremely well, has a very good first pass, can play big minutes, kill penalties and QB a power play..
With the editions of Pronger and Meszy.. his game changed. He didnt see the PP time he had.. (in his first full season while seeing regular PP time he had 5 goals and 10 assists). He was paired with Timonen a lot and you could see them trying to change him into a more reliable defensive d-man. - jak521
I don't think the changes were because of the additions of Pronger and Meszaros. It's because his offensive game never developed the way many people thought it would. The Flyers are desperate for a reliable defender at the point, and Coburn still has zero PP time this year. |

This is really aweful, but if there is any bright side, his family will be getting full benefits, plus full life insurance payouts. I know that is no replacement for a father/husband, but at least the man can rest in peace knowing his family will be taken care of. My prayers go out to this man's family and friends. - RooNosHockey
Thats one of the things my dad said to me when he called me. "As sad as it is Bud (he calls me Bud)... his family will be well provided for because of it. None of us (meaning all the other 500 workers who are getting laid off) can promise that." |

blame it all they want on more efficient cars (the company on why they lay off people) but they could have invested alternative energy for the future which would have helpedthem be competitive for the future |

I dont know Brad.. I think they changed the way they used him. He had 36 points his first full year here and 28 the following, with a combined 16 goals between the two years.
Those were pre Pronger years. |

So I actually watch a fair bit of LA hockey since I live in CA but I don't have a good feel fro Jack Johnson's defensive game. I see him making some great offensive plays but can anyone speak to his Defensive game? The fact that he is a lefty is not appealing but his cap is reasonable and he is pretty big. -86 overall life time. What does it mean (cue bad jokes about double rainbow)? |

Even worse was that 2010 was their best year financially. They hire this lady to close plants. She has done it all over the country. |

think about it jerk johnson is -86 on a team that doesn't let up many goals
not to mention he got a 7 year deal this year and his play has fallen off
way too man red flags to warrant paying much for him |

Whats wrong with Columbus?
- Philly1980
Having lived there for 2.5 years I can say that that place sucks. I've lived in Central PA, Rochester, NY, Wash. DC area, Columbus, and now Lexington, KY. Columbus is the only place on that list where I wouldn't enjoy living again. Hated that town. High crime, flat grey concrete, poorly maintained roads, very bicycle unfriendly, not very green, OSU students, no thank you. I'd feel bad for Carter, but then again he could have hit that shot in the playoffs vs. Fleury, or the one in 2010 vs. Niemi and maybe he'd still be in Philly. |
