That's a lot. I could be convinced to include Carle as we might not be able to sign him, but with JVR, that's a lot. The whole Pronger situation has us (frank)ed 8 ways to Tuesday IMO. - Hextall271
Yea I was thinking Carle too, but he is UFA and puts Nashville in the same boat. Doubt you could get Suter for JVR straight up, which if you include Carle, thats almost what it is.
As far as on ice this season and the next couple? Sure. But not $-wise. LTIR and it's like he was never there. - OrangeBlack27
Yeah, I am talking on ice.. The team was constructed with him as #1 and Timo 1 A and everyone after fell into place depth wise. With him out, everyone shifts up, Timo plays more than he probably should/may get weary down the stretch, and now we have to give up young assets to re tool the D. Sucks...

Having a player on LTIR really hurts you in the off-season, because his salary hits the books again, and limits how much the Flyers can go over the cap to spend of UFA's. It also counts as a roster player/ contract player, and the Flyers are up against the max on that as well. It does really hurt.

The Flyers are not over the limit. They have 50 deals, but the Noebbels contract is a slide deal, meaning they have 49 contracts that actually count.
Even if he was on the market, with JvR and Briere out there's limited offensive depth to move to land him. - Jsaquella
Do you think Homer continues to work hard at landing these unsigned college kids? He has done a hell of a job at signing undrafted players (who make big impacts) over the past few seasons.

But isn't he on the cap during the summer, limiting their spending? - bradleyc4
Yep. All one way contracts count toward a team's spending in the summer. Teams can spend 10% over the cap, but Walker and Pronger will count against that amount.

But Pronger's contract still counts in the off-season, which means thats is one less player then can offer a contract to prior to the season starting. They may have 49, but that is still high, and doesn't leave a lot of wiggle room.

I think part of the effort to go after NCAA free agents was born out of the lack of draft choices. Right now they could possibly have three picks in the first two rounds. If they keep them all, I think that the number of signed NCAA FA's drops, but not the interest.

Thats why I was wondering.. I think the effort was there because they needed to do something to bring in future prospects and what not. Im not talking solely NCAA, but undrafted guys in general..
Over the past 2 seasons we have landed 4 guys who are currently playing big roles on the team right now: Bob, Gussy, Read, Harry Z. Am I forgetting anybody else?

That's a possibility. I still can't believe what a find Read is..

Other contracts will be expiring. Jagr, Betts, Laperriere Carle, Jancevski, Bacashihua, Backlund and Leighton all will come off the count on July 1st, dropping them to 43. Then there's RFA's that might not get qualifying offers, like Mike Testwuide and Andrew Rowe.

I can't think of anyone else, but still they have done a good job at finding nuggets out there as well as anybody.

True, but Homer has a crap load of draft picks this year and you have to figure he will want to sign a few of them, plus when you lose players like Jagr and Carle, they have to be replaced. All I am saying is Prongers situation hurts them 2 ways not just on the ice. It hurts them in the off-season with spending, and it eats up a contract spot.
Maybe in the off-season with a New CBA deal in the works, an amnisty clause might be able to be used on him...

Normally, this stuff doesn't bother me... And, I have no love for the Leafs. But, I thought it was down-right rude. Especially, during the draft - Every time Lupul spoke... It's similar to what I tell my kidz... Once is funny, twice is old news, more than three time is just not funny, irritating, and rude. - leon neon
