And this is exactly how I feel about Jay Bouwmeester. I'm not in love with the guy but I'd like to see him get a chance outside of Calgary before judging him harshly. - Schenn2shine
translation= huge gamble. you're absolutely right
but homer has made some gambles that have paid off, but not with a cap hit close to 7mil |

i think homer looks down any avenue that can improve our team. he had interest in him right before we traded (the farm) for pronger - flyerscup2011
What would we do with his cap next summer? 6.68 for the next 2 yrs. Yikes- gamble! |

His cap hit is 6.7 million dollars. If there was no cap, I wouldn't be opposed to taking him on and seeing if a change of scenery would jump start him, but with the cap it's much to big a risk. |

His contract has 2 more years after this one. Kimmo Timonen has one more year after this one. If Weber or Suter can't be had, at least Bouwmeester could be a safety net and not for the long term. |

Calgary would need to throw something in just for us to take him.
PHI: Jay Bow and a 1st
CGY: Matt Carle, Lidja and Betts
...........and I still wouldn't do it! |

good point, but the flyers only need a solid to good 5/6 dman, why spend the assets/ cap space for a (hopefully) 1/2 guy? |

calgary's gm would have a fit laughing at that deal too
shize, he'd piss his pants
you mean you want to give me a rental dman who almost certainly won't resign here, an 8 defenseman and a walking injury for a potential top pairing dman and a first, go (frank) yourself, paul |

What kind of deal would the Flyers make to get him? I'd think moving J Bo would require Calgary taking back a semi-bad contract, which the Flyers don't really have at the moment. I don't think he's a guy I'd trade any of the kids for. |

it would be a very hard deal to make just with cap implications, not to mention fair compensation. |

I'm rather unsure but when we first stood on Matt Carle, I felt that was a bad contract. Matt Carle's contract in my mind looks better now only because the cap has only gotten higher since we've taken him on and other players like him have gotten the same amount of money (or worse) over the years. |

I would think Calgary would be happy just to move Bouwmeester's contract. I could be wrong but if anyone were to take on Bouwmeester, I wouldn't expect equal or good value for him. Bouwmeester himself should feel lucky he isn't in Wade Redden's skates. As crazy as this may sound, I'd actually rather have Bouwmeester then Carle. |

Alright, a real offer that I would not make....
PHI: Jay Bow
CGY: Carle, Lilja, Betts, a 2nd & FLDs 3rd
Final offer! |

they would be, but they could also get a better package for him that we should be willing to offer. he's very strong defensively with offensive upside (which hasn't shown up in calgary). with our cap situation and lack of disposable draft picks/ prospects it would be an extremely tough deal to make. there are dmen out there that can help us with far lower cap hit for far cheaper. that being said nothing would surprise me and i wouldn't be shocked if we got him, surprised yes |

I understand. It's not like I'm knocking on Homer's door and begging him to go after Bouwmeester. He's more like a plan Z. If Pronger doesn't return and such players as Weber and Suter can't be had, I would consider Bouwmeester. Let's not forget, a final decision does have to be made on Matt Carle. |

he's got the talent, any gm worth his salt should consider him, but it would have to be like an heart transplant...... a perfect match... we can fulfill their needs, they can take back enough salary to make it work. |

Add San Jose and Chicago into the Tuomo Ruutu sweeps. A deal could go down very soon as well.

A little surprised that Harry Z and Rinaldo were able to make the NHL before Wellwood and Sestio. Both Sestito and Wellwood seem to have better Junior and minor league numbers then Rinaldo and Harry Z. |
