carter will be dealt, but not nash, eh?
edit: sounds like dreger thinks ruutu will be the first shoe to drop. - OrangeBlack27
I think both might go... Might as well restack the deck while your whole team is misserabley aweful. Get as many first this year as you can, open as much cap room as you can in the next 2-3 years, then make a grab fro free agents in a few seasons and hope your rebuild works out... |

The confusion came in because Pronger was 34 when he signed the contract, but because it was an extension the contract didn't kick in until after he was 35. I think this was the first time something like this happened and instead of trying to re-work a deal, the Flyers just said they were ok with the contract as it stands. - RooNosHockey
Unacceptable. You have to know how the contracts work reguardless of the confussion. Before the player signs the deal you need to make sure everything is in order and that you fully understand the ramifications of the deal. |

they've got some good young players. if steve mason didn't absolutely lose his mind after he won the calder and was finalist for the vezina, things would be a lot different there, probably. - OrangeBlack27
But he's not, and they arent... |

I'm sure after the laegue brought the legistics of the rule to the Flyers attention they went back to Pronger and said we can either re-tool this deal, or if you decide to retire, you get a Rajthe injury... wink wink, nod nod.... and thats the way they went... |

The way Carter has acted since getting traded to Columbus hurts his trade value. Add in the length of his deal and teams are wary of adding him-especially if he's moody and not buying into the team concept. |

What matters is how old the players is on June 30th of the contract year. And if the contract was filed with the League and approved, there is no reworking the deal. |

He would be a nice player to add if he was going somewhere like Detroit, Boston, Chicago, San Jose, and LA. He has the ability to really help a team out but he needs to be in a role were he isnt asked to be the man. |

What they should have done was their homework. I (personally) think they knew, but kinda were hoping to take advantage of the little bit of sketchiness in the wording. |

sure. one could probably argue that losing hejda and adding wiz was a step back defensively, though. |

Growing injury history won't help him either. |

Or at least someplace where he's not miserable. He didn't want to go to Columbus and has worn that feeling on his sleeve since the trade was announced. That scares teams when the guy has 10 years left on his deal |

No, it won't but the bigger issue is him being mad at getting traded and sulking about it with 10 years left on his deal. |

Yep, Mason is truly terrible. I added that in parentheses in my original Hejda post. |

I cant blame him for being pissed off about going to Columbus. Who the hell wants to go there for the next 10 years (the franchise sucks). I dont think Carter handled it correctly but I do understand why he was so emotional about it. |

Wiz would have been a great addition to a team that had a good amount of defensive d-men and needed a offensive guy to help out.. Had the Habs not poop the bed with injuries.. or maybe a team like Colorado. |

I would imagine that both Brian Burke and David Poile would love to bring Jeff Carter on board (as would many other GMs). I think people will forgive him for pouting because he was traded to a cesspool.
And in his defense, he recently signed a long-term deal and was shipped out (TO COLUMBUS, OH) months later. |
