So you think they will traded Suter this offseason and Weber next offseason?
- jak521
I think they'll trade Suter's rights at the draft and Weber being traded will depend on how well Nashville does next season. Right now I'm assuming Nashville will continue to do well, so yes, I think they'll trade Weber's rights in the summer of 2013. Of course this is only assuming both do not re-sign with Nashville.
How crazy is my thinking?
EDIT
Now that I re-read my comment, if the Preds were to move Weber this summer, they'd more then likely get a boat load for him. |

Just prepair yourselves for Jagr to milk this groin all year long. When you need him most he will be no where to be found. E |

I'm dead serious. My original statement was quite clear and there is a difference. |

Nashville already has $33 million under contract for next season. That doesn't include Weber, Suter, Kostitsyn, or Colin Wilson.
If you give Weber $8 million and Suter $6 million, that puts them at $47 million -- which is very close to what they spend each year. They would have to dump a contract in order to re-sign RFA's Kostitsyn and Colin Wilson.
That doesn't even get you into the category of adding more talent. You're actually losing talent at that point.
They're going to have to end up choosing one or risk having two unhappy players on long-term contracts. - bradleyc4
Poile probably signed Rinne long-term because he was the only one he could get to do so that far out, but obviously the move would have been to tell Rinne to go pound sand and sign Weber and Suter. |

IMO, they have to choose between one. Poiles been given the green light to throw whatever money he can at Weber to keep him there. Theres no doubt in my mind, regardless of whatever their budget might be internally (which won't be the to the cap, but shouldn't be 10+ mill under it like this season either) that they will keep Weber.
Keeping Suter is going to be the issue. It can certainly be done. Look at Chicago. Although they spend to the cap, they have quite a few big ticket players.
But I don't think Suter stays if he wants 7+ mill. 6? Yes. 6.5? I think thats the max Nashvilles gotta spend. You can't give Suter 7. You cant have 21 million tied up between two Dmen and a goalie, IMO anyway. It'll be tough as it is giving suter 6. 7 is probably out of the question. - mochoson
Players don't really care what their cap hit is though. Suter is not having his agent walk into Poile's office and say Ryan wants his cap hit to be 7 mil per year. He's going in and saying Ryan wants 50 million (just a guess).

I've agreed with everything you've said up until now. I'm sure the Preds want something for Suter but they're in the playoffs and Suter is a big reason why. I think both guys are off season types of moves. Suter in 2012, Weber in 2013. - Schenn2shine
I don't think it's what they will do, but I do think it's what they should do.
Much easier for me to say as an armchair GM.
You're getting jack for "the rights" to Suter this off-season. Maybe a 3rd round pick? You could get a 1st or a top prospect (and more) by the trade deadline. |

Bryz is starting, so this is gonna be either a close W or a L, which shouldnt happen against this team missing Kane, buff and Burmi.
Anywho, GO FLYERS! |

Yes. Crystal.
Nashville is 12th in the league in total offense.. just trailing the Rangers.
- jak521
Can they not improve or should Weber be expected to be their lead scorer for years to come?
I am saying that, since Weber has NEVER been their leading scorer, and they are very young they will continue to improve. They have 9 guys on their team with atleast 10 goals. I also made it a point to say that I would expect Weber to be one of the leading scorers. He shouldnt and hasnt been their leading point getter... but he should and has been one of their leaders. |

All I can do is shake my head and say okay.
EDIT
It doesn't matter anyway because Martin Erat recently took over the scoring lead for the Preds in Weber's place. |

You think they should trade both Suter and Weber in the off season.. on this year and one next year? They are #4 in the NHL. They just signed their goalie (and a top 5 NHL goalie at that) to a long term deal. They have a bunch of young guys moving up through the ranks. Why blow it up? |

They have an extremely balanced offense, that will likely only continue to improve. |

They're looking for for offense right now, which was the point. Through the entire first half of their season, Weber had led his team in scoring. You want the forwards to do that, which is why they're looking for offense. If the offense was that balanced, they wouldn't be looking for more offense. |
