Feburary 17, 1986

Flyers 8, Jets 4

9 - PHI : Ron Sutter 11 (Tim Kerr, Rich Sutter) (EV) 15:38
10 - PHI : Ron Sutter 12 (Rich Sutter) (EV) 15:53

Brian Hayward (L) 18 saves on 23 shots - 40:00 mins
Daniel Berthiaume 13 saves on 16 shots - 20:00 mins

looks like the bandit got torched by sutter; the 2nd was probably the breakaway goal right after the first as i see it was unassisted.

btw, tim kerr scored his 42nd goal that night. bob froese played the first 2 periods before being yanked as well, for darren jensen, although i'm not sure why b/c he only gave up 2 goals. probably got hurt.

- hammarby31

well Jensen got the next start and won and then he was replaced by Froese in the next game, so it was probably an injury.

You think they should trade both Suter and Weber in the off season.. on this year and one next year? They are #4 in the NHL. They just signed their goalie (and a top 5 NHL goalie at that) to a long term deal. They have a bunch of young guys moving up through the ranks. Why blow it up?
- jak521

No, they should pick one and trade the other.

(edit: if either wants to stay)

They're looking for for offense right now, which was the point. Through the entire first half of their season, Weber had led his team in scoring. You want the forwards to do that, which is why they're looking for offense. If the offense was that balanced, they wouldn't be looking for more offense.
- Schenn2shine

I understand that. Their offense isnt bad.. they just lack a star forward. They have 10 players with atleast 20 points. The Flyers have 11, Detroit and Boston both have 10, Chicago has 8 and the Rangers have 7.

My point is only that for all the people who say their offense isnt good.. I dont think thats the case.

From Nashville's point of view, I agree with you. Again, we come back to whether or not either is willing to stay.

Exactly. Either go with Suter... and resign him, or go with Weber and resign him.

I didn't say their offense isn't good. I don't watch them enough to say such a thing. What I am saying by the numbers and by the rumors, they want to improve in that area.

I think they are proving that they have the total team game to be an elite team. If they added offense it would certainly help.

I'm sure I'll get a few *leight* responses, but

according to http://www.broadstreethoc...-a-3-2-game-would-be-nice

Good news: Jaromir Jagr will play tonight. Danny Briere, James van Riemsdyk and Zac Rinaldo are still out, and Harry Zolnierczyk will be a healthy scratch, according to the beat writers at the morning skate today. That means both Tom Sestito and Jody Shelley will be in the lineup, and it's possible they could find themselves on the same fourth line, centered by Ben Holmstrom.

Really? Shelly over Z?

There is no doubt offense would improve Nashville but they also have to find away to keep their current core intact.

The more I see Tom Sestito play, the more I like him. I look forward to him becoming a regular.

I like the way you totally disregarded the "shelly" part and focused on the positive spin of seeing Sestito again.

Well done.

Shelley to me isn't that big a deal. There is no reason to beat that to death...or to dust.

This is the issue with Nashville. They have a goalie and they play defensive style hockey first bc they are limited with skill guys upfront. Why not try and sign Weber and Suter then worry about getting the offense inorder. They need to continue to build their current team to what they do best. I dont see how it helps them by losing Suter or Weber and adding an offensive threat. Losing one of those two defenseman creates another hole.

Personally, I really like Suter but I wouldnt pay him like an "elite" defenseman if he wants a contract over six years.

Gleason just got 4 mil.. Suter is worth atleast 6.

It would be tough for a team like that to have damn near 21 mill in 3 guys. I get what you are saying, and agree that if they were spending to the cap, that would be the most ideal.

The wrinkle is that both Suter and Weber have said that they want ownership to do more. They're not happy with status quo.

And Suter is an elite defenseman.

So now that JvR is practicing again and d-men are becoming more scarce, JvR to Toronto for L. Schenn and Kulemin?

Players don't really care what their cap hit is though. Suter is not having his agent walk into Poile's office and say Ryan wants his cap hit to be 7 mil per year. He's going in and saying Ryan wants 50 million (just a guess).
- Duran76

Yes, but Players and agents understand that if they can work the Cap hit down, it helps the player's team build a better team around him, and also makes the team more willing to pay the player the money he is asking.

So...I was thinking that I would throw out a topic worth talking about because nobody is going to be right or wrong about the Weber/Suter situation until it breaks. I would also rather avoid talking about Jody Shelley or Ilya Bryzgalov, so here it is...

With Jagr returning tonight, that means Schenn is off that top line with Giroux. Where does he go?

Pfft.. I cant believe he thinks we could get Kulemin for JvR straight up, let alone with Schenn.

Not like I want to get rid of him. But we need defencemen and he is the most movable player that can get us the best return.

I agree, that's a no go. Kulemin scored 30 goals last season. JvR only has the potential as it stands.
