Players don't really care what their cap hit is though. Suter is not having his agent walk into Poile's office and say Ryan wants his cap hit to be 7 mil per year. He's going in and saying Ryan wants 50 million (just a guess). - Duran76
That's correct. Players don't negotiate for a cap hit. They negotiate for cash.

Shea Weber wants $7+ million/year on a small market club and wants them to also commit to bringing in more talent?
Either he's incredibly stupid, or he's just trying to say the right thing.
Nashville can't do both (re-sign Weber or Suter long-term at those dollars and bring in more talent).
What they can do is try to pick up some forwards by the trade deadline who have expiring contracts and try to win this season paying those new players only a small portion of their owed salary. But that has no bearing on who will be on the team the following season. - bradleyc4
This echoes my thoughts as well, although I believe I heard over the all star break (somewhere in all the Suter-related coverage) that Nashville ownership has promised to spend to the cap ceiling next year. If in fact that is true, they have more options. I guess we'll see.

Looks like I am wrong. Players can only be taken to Arbitration 1 time in their career. That may change things, as Weber can refuse to sign an offer with Nashville, and accept a 1 year deal from another team. Nashville will likely accept the deal, then trade him though... - RooNosHockey
A team can only take a player to Arbitration once. A player can only be subjected to team elected arbitration once in his career. A player who is an RFA can elect arbitration every year. Weber, as an RFA, cannot refuse to sign an offer and accept a 1 year deal from another team. The only way another team can get Weber this off season, is through a trade, or an Offer Sheet. And an Offer Sheet isn't going to be for one year. And Weber isn't likely to sign an Offer Sheet with another team. |

I've heard that also. Nashville sells out almost every home game. If they are going to spend to the Cap ceiling, with a little creativity, they can sign both Weber and Suter. And add some firepower up front.

What the hell is going on here?
An independent specialist contacted to review recent medical tests taken on Sidney Crosby found no evidence of a past or present neck fracture but verified that Crosby is suffering from a soft-tissue injury of the neck, that could be causing neurological symptoms.

Thanks to the wisdom of Hockeybuzz, the Flyers Medical Staff is now recommending stretching to it's players. Especially those players with a history of groin issues. |

I was talking about an offer sheet, and yes teams would make an ofer sheet for 1 year, because I doubt Weber would sign anything longer if he was trying to get out of Nashville. The whole purpose would be to sign a deal, knowing that just about whatever the deal, Nashville would match. So a 1 year deal, would put Weber to UFA after Nashville decided to match, otherwise the signing team would have the whole year to work out an extension, and if Weber desides to sign with them in the first place it is likely he would do so again. |

No team would make an Offer Sheet for one year. It is a waste of time. Do you know what the compensation is to sign a player such as Weber to an Offer Sheet, and what it would take salary wise? Weber is going to be a UFA in a year anyway. That makes zero sense. Weber doesn't need any of that nonsense just to get a one year deal from Nashville. |

I think so too. There is still the issue of actually getting the right missing pieces and convincing Webber & Suter that ownership will follow through on their promise. But if they are convinced, and if they both want to stay, there's no reason why that can't happen if Nashville is willing to spend to the ceiling. Should be interesting to to see what happens. |

If he comes here, he'd be the best Z-named Flyer since Zarley Zalapski. |
