Mr. Ilitch has stood in their way before.

From what I've read in the past, he's more of a co-GM than assistant. He makes a l'or of player personnel decisions.

- Subban_76

Ya, I've heard he makes GM money too. Don't see why he would leave even if they let him.

Really? What's he doing now anyway.

AGM in Chicago. I believe he was head of their scouting under Tallon when they built the cup winner.

Trying to replace a GM mid-season isn't easy, especially when you're a tool like Molson. I feel like Molson is so in over his head right now that nothing will be done until the dust has settled and the season is over. They really need to let someone else take over as President if you ask me.
- ehabs9

Not going to happen. The Habs are like his boy toy.

Owners should never and I mean never take these kind of roles.

"Pierre McGuire has his detractors. For them, it's not about hockey knowledge. It can't possibly be. It's personal. Or it's based on Pierre's personality."

So Melnick admits PM has a nasty personality

Would that necessarily be a bad thing or would it turn into a worse circus?

I truly don't know the answer to that one.

That's pronounced capologist.

Probably won't believe me but I did know that, I don't know why I went with "cap-wise". Thought it sounded less hands on .

with the media in MTL...you need a GM that is fairly calm...

I think EE once referred to Julien Brisebois as the best capologist in the game, or it may have been Weirdoh. Not sure.

Have you already forgotten Gainey?

And the guy in charge doesn't really ooze charisma either.

I am just saying that it wouldn't necessarily be terrible if he got the job. Could be because of what this management team has assembled and tried to pass off as a team worthy of playoff aspirations.
- Ultimate Cyberhabs

I really have no opinion of McGuirre as GM, it could be interesting it could be a train wreck.

The fact he was a big part of the present regime eliminates him for me.

At least it couldn't really get any worse. I've never seen a team so Richarded up poop creek for the foreseeable future.

Eklund referred to Gauthier as one of the best cap management and manipulators he'd ever met. I believe a quote went something along the lines of "Gauthier could understand the cap era game better than anyone else out there"

I don't see the future as bleek though. The biggest mistake was not addressing the D properly. I think Habby was one of the first ones to express concerns about it prior to the beginning of the season. Gomez's contract limited the options available on the back end and signing Andrei "The Infirmery" Markov was a huge mistake as well. The lack of foresight in going with such an inexperienced back end has cost this team dearly. If only David Fischer had panned out........

I'll consider this once you accept they're not making the playoffs. Right now you're rooting for gauthier.

If Molson wanted to get rid of PG, it should have been done at the same time as Martin was let go IMO. I don't think that the Goat is going anywhere.

Also don't forget losing a GM mid-season is how we ended up with Gauthier in the first place

Things need to be fixed for sure but it's definetly not bleak for the future. This team will actually score more goals than last years.
