No. The way the salaries were escalating they would have been making even more now if the cap wasn't there....at least the higher end players would be.

Still wasn't worth a wasted year.

If a team wants to pay a player like him that much, they're stuck paying for him.
- mr.peanut

well contracts were always guaranteed i just think teams are smarter about handing out that kind of money right now.

I doubt they will lose a whole year, but i'd be shocked if there wasn't some sort of work stoppage.

And we're talking about pro athletes and mega wealthy owners. I doubt anyone has learnt anything...and by anyone I mean the players.

Agreed, i don't think the owners cared last time, nor will they next time. the players should be trying to get the best deal possible without losing any salary, once it's gone, it's gone.

any chance a team hires Gainey as a GM in the next few weeks so we can trade him Kaberle?

Well if we learned anything from the last one, the fans suffered, not the owners or the players.

To me the answer is simple. The owners already have there cap and the players are still making buckets of money. Just resign the same agreement.

That won't happen.
The owners are going to want non-guaranteed contracts and the players would give that up without a huge fight.

How didn't the fans suffer? Didn't have pro hockey for a year and the prices for everything have gone up.

That's what i was thinking.

I think the biggest fight is going to be % of profit. considering the deals just signed by the other leagues, NHL players get a much larger %.
