I can't see PG trading his 1st at the deadline not knowing if it's gonna be a lottery pick or not. That would be the icing on the cake... - fidopro
management will approve any big move...god I hope they don't trade that pick this year. The Habs are thin on quality depth...can't afford to unload a lottery pick unless the return is amazing and I am not sure Carter is worth Plek and a lottery pick. Management would assume with Carter, the team will be better, therefor move out of a lottery pick position. He is the big center we've been asking for years.
Maybe we give them our first and we take theirs on top of Plek and let's say tinordi or beaulieu and either another pick or a prospect like Kristo...to make Asp happy...would you do it? |

Yep. Especially since they are supposed to trade down (e3). Habs would then have Carter and the 1st overall !! Where do we sign? |

If the Habs make this trade it will be Plek 1st Beaulieu or Tinordi for Carter. The Jackets making that similar trade for Carter set them back. I don't see the Habs doing the same, look at what trading a lottery pick did for the Leafs. |

can't see them trading too far down though if they do, the draft is in Columbus, they might want to hang on that pick even though it's not for the best of the team since they really need a solid D...which they can grab with the 4th or 5th. They would make that trade after the season I would think. |

Obviously. I don't want Carter right now anyway, that would ruin our chance at a lottery pick! Well... maybe not.

I can see the Habs moving AK, Moen, Gill, Karbele (if) at the same time they go for Carter....that also would piss me off. They need to sell vets this year for picks/prospects. |

Yep, agreed. Not many untouchables with the Habs. Among vets, I'd keep Cole and Bourque. That's it.

That should be the priorety for the Habs. If they don't want to throw in their first for Carter, they'll lose any bidding war. Sell off for picks, and get a decent centre through free agency. |

That's the problem. No top center will be UFA this summer. And even if there was one, there's no garanty he'd sign in Mtl. I could see them make a pitch at Semin and Suter though... If they can unload Gomez and Gionta that is.
So let's forget about this!

Trade spear parts for picks, unload bad contracts, play the kids and hope for another lottery pick next year. That's what I would do, unless a GM out there gives us a top center or a top d at a good price. |

J'espere que Columbus va ramasser un point aussi...meme 2 en overtime. Anaheim va monter a mon avis...j'aimerais ratrapper Columbus ou s'assurer des odds du 2e pick |

I'm not so sure. Patching and repatching didn't work. People would understand it I think. If it's for 2 years (counting this one), not 6 or 7 like TOR and EDM.
Look at the great teams (CHI-BOS-VAN-DET...), they don't really have bad contracts. Habs have at least 4. They can't go forward until they clean that mess.
So once they unload the caca, if a UFA is available, but not just any UFA, the one you really want, you go for it. But I could see them wait a year or 2 to sign one, till the right one comes along. |

The new coach turned his season around. Happy for him.
Good team, great drafting for the past 8 years will do that to you. |

Well...kind of took them until this year from being massive failures with multiple busts. |
