Trottier was pedestrian without Bossy on his wing.

XxNYIxX

- XxNYIxX

Here we go again!

Trottier played two seasons before Bossy came into the league.

He had 64 goals and 105 assists combined in those two seasons. Hardly pedestrian.

The year after Bossy retired Trottier had 30 goals and 52 assists. Hardly pedestrian.

Trottier scored 148 goals and 238 assists sans Bossy. Much of his time spent in the league after Bossy left he was playing injured.

To say that he or Bossy did not benefit from playing with each other would be wrong. They were both Hall of Fame performers and one fed off the other.

But, for you to say he was pedestrian without Bossy does him a great disservice.

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/columbus-gm-doughty-goal-either-deliberate-stopping-clock-163522195.html#more-24227 just to change the subject (I have had quite enough arguments with Downeaster .. don't need to tag along). At least we are not the only bottom dwelling team that feels it is getting effed by refs... and no one in NHL gives a cr@p. I love Colin Campbell putting his 2 cents in ... "game is over it's over" .. I wonder if he would be that dismissive if this was Toronto, Pittsburgh, Canucks on losing end of this issue. They would be getting 10,000,000 e-mails and news articles about it.
- niteislander

Absolutely ridiculous the game was won like that. The fact that the refs, war room in toronto, and NHL execs just let it go is a disgrace

Speaking of Bossy...
I asked before and no one responded but does anyone know if the Islanders have a Mike Bossy version of those "jersey tee" with the name and number on the back? Have you guys/gals seen them at games?

1) i used quotes for a reason....i was QUOTING youre terminology...."By the way, your the first person to jump on someone else here so I have no idea what your deal is."

2) good idea -- downeaster, curious what you think of the roli/wishart trade...

- LetsGoIsles

Thought they might have gotten more. But, Roloson WAS 41 years old.

Wishart is a big body that plays soft. He could not break the line up of a lousy Tampa Bay team. He is 23 and is getting past the stage he can be considered a late bloomer.

Might have been done to save money as Roloson was making 3 million.

You guys were killing Okposo, Bailey and even Grabner at the time. I was wondering why nobody was addressing Tavares' play.

I knew and know he was better than that. That is why I asked if he was hurt.

Part of the "problem" here you guys have with me is you all think I bust on the Islanders.

I don't and what you just posted here is a perfect example of something you attibuted to me which was inaccurate and untrue......as usual.

- Downeaster

the reason nobody killed JT was because even early on before he went on a tear, he was still averaging about a point per game. His line and he in particular were the only ones generating any kind of offense or chances while the rest of the forwards did absolutely nothing. I don't care if JT's points come at even strenght, short handed, on the PP or from the locker room. As long as he's getting his points, he's doing his part.

When everyone else (i.e. Bailey, Grabner Okposo, Nielsen, Rolston, Reasoner, etc.) are doing absolutely nothing, its kind of hard to hammer one of two or three guys who are actually producing, even if by some people's standards it isn't enough production or production at even strength.

FYI, Bossy averaged 57 goals/season. Has anyone else in the history of hockey done that? Serious question. I don't know the answer. But that shows you how dominant a scorer Bossy was. In five of ten seasons he scored over sixty goals.

if you really think about it Cappy is the one to blame for lack of secondary scoring. He has Rolston on Scoring line for 47 games this season and had on the ice in last 5 mins of most games particularly those where looking for goal to get us back in game.
Bailey, Nielson and Grabs have had their moments but for sure need more consistency.

Reasoner has been TERRIBLE. a close second to rolston and would be worse but at least he was limited to 4th line.

IF Cappy wants secondarys scoring. You need to put some more skill guys together. Nino should be given a chance to play with Bailey or with Nielsen. Why not give Nino a shift with JT? Get the kids confidence going.

Over career No. But Bossy was only limited to 10 seasons. But to show you how impressive that stat is, Gretzky in first 10 seasons of his career averaged 62.6 goals/season. thats the type of company bossy is in from goal scoring standpoint.
also let me add Bossy was highest Goals per game player all time with minimum of 200 goals scored
1.Mike Bossy, 0.762
2.Cy Denneny, 0.756
3.Mario Lemieux, 0.754
4.Babe Dye, 0.742
5. Alexander Ovechkin, 0.634
6. Pavel Bure, 0.623
7.Wayne Gretzky, 0.601
8.Brett Hull,[3] 0.584

Do you ever post in the rags blog or do you just scour every Isles blog to find something you can debate. It's sad, get a (frank)ing life already
- jsr1034

1. Yes I do.

2. Free country. If I see something I want to comment on I will do so.

3. I have a great life approaching retirement. Getting ready to travel more, spend more time with my kids and grandkids and spend a lot more time at my summer home, fishing from my boat or canoe. I also am a Rangers season ticket holder, officiate high school track and field and used to write for several hockey publications which I had to give up due to a lack of time. Maybe I'll pick that up again.

4. Can't you ever be nice?

I think we can all agree that bossy was just an unbelievable player, goal scorer, and person. Real nice guy.

If you actually contributed to the conversation instead of nitpicking every little thing that you say is wrong, then yes I would be nice. But seeing how you don't do that, no.

The pot has been stirred today. The debate is on.

I think you guys are argueing for the sake of argueing. No one can win this, I am telling you. Boys are just going to get frustrated and go home mad as hell.

DO not let that happen, worst things are taking place.

The team is on the verge of being very good. They need a new coach and a couple of pieces and they are there...then you can all enjoy the ride.

Weather it is on the Island or in Brooklyn, it will still be your team. And, it should be a good one.

- bixll

Brooklyn is a home run... u can take the LIRR to the arena. It would be same as going to the garden. just take the other line to Atlantic terminal (flatbush ave) .

Obviously a lot has changed for JT since then, but as someone that's been watching hockey for a long time you should know that stats don't always tell the story. You can't argue that JT has blossomed into one of the best in the game, and we saw where he was heading even during those times where his point production wasn't what it is now. You made a comment about Nino not deserving a line promotion the other day simply based on stats. Again, it's not always about stats. I'm surprised you rely solely on stats as someone that's been watching as long as you have been. And to do it on the Islanders board, when you obviously don't watch them religiously like we do, comes off as someone trying to instigate.
- Charlie21

very much agreed.....the JT argument was simply to instigate....i think everyone would agree with that

Xx.. we don't disagree a lot.. but you have to be kidding me with Trots comment. The guy was one of the best players I have ever seen play. He was the quintesential set up man. 95 points his rookie year which was a new record at the time.. calder trophy, Art ross Trophy, Hart Trophy, Conn Smythe, 6 cups, 500 goals, 900 assists, 12 time all star, etc. etc. etc.... hall of famer, top 30 all time hockey news 100 greatest player. please tell me u were kidding.

the sound tigers dont play till friday (AHL all star break)....he would have sit out a full week if not for the game he played with the islanders. although if thats the case it speaks volumes that the are willing to jeopardize an islanders game in order to keep the AHL teams goalie fresh....

thats the only thing i could think of

I mean that is all I care about as well just seemed real weird to me that is all. I was thinking maybe they had a trade on the table that fell through, or that they just love this 3 goalie rotation thing. I mean whatever the case was he played great and it was funnt cause after the game they were saying how he could get the start Friday and then the next thing I knew he was back to the AHL
