So to change topics once again any word why Poulin was called up and then sent right back down. Does not seem to make sense to me??? - kasperrko
It's the Islanders. Don't expect an explanation. |

The Islanders said something about Montoya being not ok for the game. Then I guess they decided since they called Poulin up they should play him...
The real story is probably a trade that never happened. |

Trottier was pedestrian without Bossy on his wing.

FYI and In case you dont know or if you even care. Garth Snow will be interviewed at 6PM. It will be aired on XM Radio Channel 92, NHL.com, The NHL Network (Dish 625 or 157 ) , and islanders.nhl.com. I'll guess that one of the topics will be the Barkley Center. |

Here we go again!
Trottier played two seasons before Bossy came into the league.
He had 64 goals and 105 assists combined in those two seasons. Hardly pedestrian.
The year after Bossy retired Trottier had 30 goals and 52 assists. Hardly pedestrian.
Trottier scored 148 goals and 238 assists sans Bossy. Much of his time spent in the league after Bossy left he was playing injured.
To say that he or Bossy did not benefit from playing with each other would be wrong. They were both Hall of Fame performers and one fed off the other.
But, for you to say he was pedestrian without Bossy does him a great disservice. - Downeaster
That's great but i say it!

Xx.. we don't disagree a lot.. but you have to be kidding me with Trots comment. The guy was one of the best players I have ever seen play. He was the quintesential set up man. 95 points his rookie year which was a new record at the time.. calder trophy, Art ross Trophy, Hart Trophy, Conn Smythe, 6 cups, 500 goals, 900 assists, 12 time all star, etc. etc. etc.... hall of famer, top 30 all time hockey news 100 greatest player. please tell me u were kidding. - niteislander
That i think JT has more talent then him.... no not kidding.

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/columbus-gm-doughty-goal-either-deliberate-stopping-clock-163522195.html#more-24227 just to change the subject (I have had quite enough arguments with Downeaster .. don't need to tag along). At least we are not the only bottom dwelling team that feels it is getting effed by refs... and no one in NHL gives a cr@p. I love Colin Campbell putting his 2 cents in ... "game is over it's over" .. I wonder if he would be that dismissive if this was Toronto, Pittsburgh, Canucks on losing end of this issue. They would be getting 10,000,000 e-mails and news articles about it. - niteislander

Anyone listen to Snow being interviewed by Gary Bettman???
Bettman says the NVMC is no longer a serviceable building for the Islanders.
Snow says the Isles are extremely excited to be playing in the Barkley Center.
He says the players on their recent trips to NC and Toronto were saying how nice it would be to play in Arenas like that.
He praised the Barkley center as a wonderful state of the art facility that is convenient to Islander fans from all parts of Nassau, Brooklyn and Queens. I got the feeling Bettman was feeding Snow with Arena questions to make a point.
Snow would not mention names but stated that a major concern of UFA's is the NVMC. HE said it has cost the Isles many opportunities to sign quality players.
He also stated that as we approach the trading dead line. The Islanders will be active if any offers come along that will improve the team which he stated is in its 5th yr of rebuilding. He reiterated that he is looking for more young talent that will improve the team and he expects the current team to make a run for the PO's this year.
He praised JT, Matt Molson and Matt Martin. Bettman spoke of PAP, but Snow seemed to tip toe around him.
He called Josh Bailey one of the CORE players on the team!!!
He is very happy with Capt Jack and his crew. And mentioned that Arron Ness is having a terrific yr in Bridgeport. Called 2008 a great draft that is now paying dividends for the fans.
Well thats about all I remember off hand.
I checked the Isles site but I couldnt find a replay. Maybe on Youtube or NHL.com |

Excellent update, thanks! Now, that being said, what with the combination of a couple of Jack and cokes I had and the fact that I'm watching JFK right now.....Snow and Bettman in cohoots?!?, Ed Magnano backpeddling?!!? Who blinks first?
Love PAP's play of late but if we are going to be "active", he's more of a dangling carrot than Bailey is.
"Run for the playoffs" and "looking for more young talent" in the same sentence? Um, no. It's either one or the other and as long as the likes of the usual suspects get same ice time as "young talent" does...wll, the next 40 will be fun but I'm not holding my breath. |

Thanks for the info SCLI. I hope Snow is active this deadline. If I'm the Isles I do not let Frans and PA walk for nothing. I've not heard much about Ness. Good news if true. Still think it will be tough for him to make an impact on the NHL level. Being very happy with Jack is hard to believe but if he is doing exactly what Wang and Snow wants it's no wonder. No question the building has been a problem but the Way Charles has run the team and especially how Garth got the job has done more damage than anything. - ses111
The kings have several young dmen that can't crack their defense that are ready to play in NHL. They need a forward. I'd trade pap there for voynov or drewiski or even muzzin |

I'm still really uncomfortable with the idea of dealing PA. Does anyone remember how long it's been since we had a 70 point player? We may have three of them this year and I can't imagine they can't sign PA. Move Nielsen and keep PA. |

I completely agree with you. Just saying if they were to move him a move like that would at least make sense. Hard to believe they wouldn't resign him but nothing they do makes sense. |

I'd rather keep PA than Frans. I rather not bring both back. We need to change the mix on this soft team. Isles have to make sure they do not lose both for nothing. I just have to laugh about Snow's very happy comment regarding the coaches. I do not expect Garth to trash Jack but very happy for a guy that won nothing? Wang and Snow always praising everyone no wonder the team gets lazy. |
