The Columbus Blue Jackets are trying to trade Jeff Carter, according to Columbus Dispatch writer Aaron Portzline. Carter's $5,272,727 annual cap hit, which looked so affordable just last summer, might be a little harder for teams to swallow given Carter's performance this season. He has just 10 goals and 17 points in 30 games. That being said, if the Blue Jackets do manage to trade Carter, his production will probably skyrocket with his new club.

At this point one has shown more potential then the other though. JvR has shown nothing but steps forward, even in high pressure situations like the playoffs. In my mind the only thing that's hurt JvR's development is getting hurt this season. People expected more from him but it's tough to put it together when you're hurt. Schenn has struggled simply because he's struggling. - Schenn2shine
Has one? Luke Schenn played 22 minutes a game last year as a 21 year old defenseman. Including leading all defenseman in PK icetime on the team. I agree that injuries have hurt JVR's development this year.

Burke should just bite the bullet and get him.
Lupul and Carter were great together. |

What pressure has Luke Schenn faced at the pro level? He's playing for a team that hasn't made the playoffs since before the lockout began. If anything, most of those player should be uses to losing. Of course I'm only speaking from my point of view. By trading for Schenn the expectation is that he become a big part his the Flyers success. In my opinion JvR is already doing this for the Philadelphia Flyers and Luke Schenn isn't doing this for the Toronto Maple Leafs. So if we do trade JvR for Schenn, I feel a little more better come back in this direction. |

A 21 year old defenseman playing a top role on an NHL team doesn't face any pressure?

Not the same type of pressure and steps forward that JvR already has. |

I don't buy that for a second. Did Kadri not have a small frame when they drafted him, or did he suddenly develop a small frame, that has caused Toronto to sour on him. The Media is rarely a good source of a team souring on a player. What is the logjam of defensive prospects that Schenn is caught up in? Players at 21 or 22 don't always have a complete game, and have areas that need to be improved upon in their play. - MJL
the source said Kadri doesn't fit in TOR and it's about more than a small frame. Richards has a small frame but he competes at a level that Kadri has yet to reach. the other prob w/ Kadri is that he doesn't play well at wing where they could use him more. so to recap, he's playing small at wing and doesn't compete as much as they expect. he's a better player at center, but isn't trusted defensively...needs a fresh start. |

carter doesn't appear to be a guy you build around...more like a solid support player who's very streaky. any player can have a bad season, so it will be interesting to to see if he can rebound when he moves on. def a better center than winger. |

Luke Schenn plays in Toronto and was hailed as the team's future Scott Stevens...think that's not pressure?
Both JvR and Schenn are young players and both have had ups and downs, taken steps forward and back. I think JvR has a higher ceiling, but I also feel that Schenn is more capable of reaching his ceiling. |

bill watters, who does color for the leafs and is an ex-GM, said so, as did another TOR area reporter on XM. Kadri especially, because he is a top 6 center with a small frame, but unlike a guy like Richards, he doesn't play 200 ft.
schenn is viewed as a guy caught in a logjam of prospects who offer a better value given his contract and the mix of the leaf back line. - isaiah520
Watters also stated that they had a deal sending Grabovsky, Kulemin and Schenn to Columbus for Nash. |

they had another reporter on XM the other nite who corroborated the sentiments re Kadri and schenn. those are 2 that are clearly available. if homer was nutty enuf to think of trading for schenn straight up, I would only hope JVR's recovery time would prevent it. |

Don't buy it. He's 21 years old and on the 2nd year of his EL deal. And he needs a fresh start. I think the source is full of it even suggesting that. He's 21. How about letting the kid develop and grow as a player. If the source is a former GM, I know why he is a former and not a current GM. They may be willing to deal him in a deal for a player they like better. But soured on him? That's a reach.
If they feel Kadri is a Center and they have a bigger need for a natural Winger. Then that is using an asset to get an asset at a position of need. That's not souring on a player. |

I have heard that they are frustrated by Kadri's slow progress, but Schenn hasn't been soured on, he's just the easiest to move(Gardiner and Aulie are cheap, & Komisarek has a NTC)
Also, according to Dreger, it's Burke who wants JvR and is "desperate" to make a deal. I'll trust Dreger before Bill Watters. |

he's certainly closer to the situation than you. it sounded like Wilson/Kadri is similar to hitch/sharp in terms of the coaches patience level. I'd be more than happy to take him if it had a similar result. |

Don't need to be close to the situation to know that teams don't sour on a young player taken with a high draft pick that quickly. Burke is not a fool. He is a smart Hockey man.
