Agree. I think the Flyers' 18 skaters are much more talented than the Rangers' 18. But the Rangers are a better team. Not not sure that the Flyers skaters can compensate for the difference in the goalies. I want to say not to worry it's only February but the goalie scares me. - 2731color
Yep, and this is the time of the season where you start seeing who the best "teams" really are. Flyers had a good first 30-35 games because they are so talented top to bottom, but once teams with less talent start gelling as teams, and the Flyers don't gel in the same way, they start getting exposed.
I guess they still have time to come together as a team, but they better start doing the work necessary to do so. It doesn't happen by itself |

Wait so how do we get"bob was left on an Island yesterday" but today Bryz was terrible? No I'm sorry. The team effort was better today but that's like saying Arby's is better than McDonalds. - JoeRussomanno
no bob vs bryz, i saw & knew the confidence bullshi& was coming back when Gaborik scored the 1st bad one, now we're back to confidence like he's a rookie again |

Still a team game. Obviously, goaltending on both sides was the single biggest factor. But you can also look at Giroux not finishing three point-blank chances (two when it was a one-goal game). You can look at the bad Carle turnover. You can look at Gaborik being left untouched after that big hit. You can look at power play pressure that didn't result in a goal.
But, yes, it starts with the goaltending. Lundqvist was sensational. Bryz let in two awful goals. - bmeltzer
The goals are so bad it completely deflates the team... It's unacceptable. |

Here is the biggest difference between the two teams. How many times were the Rangers outmanned on the puck? They support each other and the puck. They play as a 5 man unit, they keep the gap tight. Look at the Dubinsky goal. After you get past the turnover, look at the replay. Other then Couturier going over to the Flyers bench to change, which he shouldn't have done. The 2 other Flyer forwards are on the offensive side of the redline. How is that playing as a team? How is that supporting your teammates. Who has Dubinsky? Why is he that wide open? A bad turnover is made, but where is the support? I'll skip analyzing the defenseman play on that goal, because I have no idea what Bourdon was doing. - MJL
All that is on point but the biggest difference between the teams is that they have a King and we have a Jack. |

Todays goals were bad. The turnovers and lack of support is not great either. Im not blaming the defense as I think the goalie should of stopped three of those goals but they dont get a pass either (includes forwards). |

Goaltending is one of the key differences. But there are other differences that are equal to that. When the Flyers play the right way, like they did against Nashville, they are a very good team. When they play the way they did this weekend, they aren't. It comes down to team defense. It is as big an issue with this team as goaltending is.

Who is saying confidence? I'm not.
All I'm saying is you keep making mistakes sooner or later your goalie isn't gonna have an answer. It's okay for that to be applied when Bob is in net but when Bryz is in net he gets balls to the walls criticism. I'm sorry you can't have it both ways. |

Bill you have talked about it a lot and today was just another example of Bryz not making the momentum changing saves. Yes the G needs to bury that goal, but bottom line Bryz needs to maKe those saves. The Flyers pay him to do it. |

There is no confidence excuses at this point in the season. He is being paid like an "elite" goalie, he needs to be one. Phoenix played a more defensive style hockey but todays goals could of been stopped no matter what uniform he had on. Those are the saves that should be made and the reason(s) why Boucher and Leighton are no longer rostered on the big club. |

Joe, 2 of the goals, the save has to be made. That's all there is to it. I have no problem with the deflection goal or the Dubinsky goal. But many want to focus on just the goaltending. The inconsistent team defense is as big an issue as the goaltending. And there is no doubt in my mind that they are symbiotic.

I agree with you on team defense. It is sorely lacking for the Flyers right now, but in this particular game the goalie was poor and it cost them the game. |

It's a team game but when one player, the last line of defense, is consistently not doing his part everybody else is scrambling trying to make up for it. Ppl are out of position, they can't execute their game plan b/c they're chasing the game... Forwards are cheating up ice, dmen are trying to for stretch passes... it just snowballs. |
