thing is, i don't know how much a single trade is going to make a difference. it's overall team d, commitment as a group, puck support, and getting reliable goaltending. 1 guy isn't going to make that other stuff happen. and if it took an outside guy to do that, the guys in the room have a serious problem. - hammarby31
The thing that everyone seems to forget is that it's a very young team with a LOT of rookies. They're learning how to play in the NHL. They're also missing a huge piece in Pronger.

The problem with that logic is, the market dictates worth. If Tim Gleason is worth $4mm per year, then Matt Carle's likely worth $5mm. Carle's been better this season than both Meszaros and Coburn, and they're both signed to $4mm+ deals. - Jsaquella
I understand your logic but no one is going to take on Coburns contract right now. Mezzy maybe has some value, but wouldnt you rather keep him at less than 5 mil and less years than you would have to give Carle? |

My thing is this.
A poop load of the mistakes I have seen this year from the D core are from Carle, Coburn and Mez.
They are not rookies. To me. One has to go. 15 million to give those 3 guys is horsepoop to me. |

The one area where they had experience coming into the season was defense and goaltending and neither has been very consistent.
Forwards play a part in it but the mistakes made by the veterans on this team are mind boggling. |

I bet if the Flyers shopped Braydon Coburn they'd get takers, and teams willing to give up something significant to get him. Carolina wanted a 1st rounder for Gleason. If teams are jockeying for Gill, Bryan Allen and Chris Campoli, they'd be salivating at Coburn. |

i'm not forgetting this. there will be growing pains. i hate to harp on bryz, but man, if he did his job today the flyers might have won this game. i'm none too happy with jagr and giroux right now either. jagr was horrendous today and giroux has turned into trent klatt. |

we can't have both at this point. bourdon has regressed every game, and today was just the worst. i don't know why lava put him back out there today. i would have stapled his ass to the bench. a solid vet will help the team, but he, in and of himself, is not going to fix the team d and goaltending issues. - hammarby31

The "veteran" defensemen making mistakes are also logging more minutes than anyone expected because of the absence of Pronger. They're all also pretty young-Coburn and Carle are 27 and Meszaros is 25. They're good second pair guys being asked to play first pair roles. |

This is exactly why I hate football.
Its okay live.
However for a game to watch on tv? I rather stab my eyes with penises to watch so many commercials. |

I agree with you here. I'd just rather keep the bigger, more physical dmen and not pay market price for Carle. |

They're not rookies. But they are second pair types being asked to play first pair roles, and more minutes than they were expected to play. Rather than being good complimentary players in a pair, they are being asked to carry the pair. |

I'm not understanding how Gus and Burdon have been that much better then Lilja. Burdon has needed to take a seat long before Gus came off injury. Maybe we can afford to wait on a trade but it might come at the cost of dropping in the standings. |

Now we are back to square one.
You have just basically said why I think they need to break the bank for Weber in the off-season. |

I agree with you but it seems like every single year we say the same thing and the Flyers supposively upgrade their 5th and 6th guys but by years end we say the same thing again. - stveshdy
A move NEEDS to be made on D. If we don't make a move, we're not trying. We've already given up on this season. I've never known the Flyers not to try. |

All three of those defenseman have been in the league for some time now and are considered veterans. Injuries happen in hockey and players are asked to do things that normally may not be asked. These guys are all being paid quality money and I dont think its crazy to expect better results and more consistent play. |
