You have just basically said why I think they need to break the bank for Weber. - flyer_nutter
Breaking the back for Weber makes them Nashville.
Adding a good 4th/5th type veteran will help stabilize the group, because then you don't have guys having to play extra minutes to "hide" Bourdon or Gustafsson.
Adding a good young player like Schenn allows you to have a guy under contract with a reasonable hit for several years, and do retooling in the summer.
i don't like lilja being out and both rookies in. makes no sense to me. - hammarby31
Laviolette could be resting him for the playoffs but you don't want him rusty either. In my opinion Lilja is better then both Burdon and Lilja. If I could sit either rookie for the next game, it would be Burdon.
All three of those defenseman have been in the league for some time now and are considered veterans. Injuries happen in hockey and players are asked to do things that normally may not be asked. These guys are all being paid quality money and I dont think its crazy to expect better results and more consistent play. - stveshdy
I don't think it's crazy, either. But you're asking them to play roles that they're not suited for. It's like Hartnell being hurt and expecting Talbot to fill in for him. Rather than playing with Pronger or Timonen, they're playing with Gustafsson or Bourdon-which means that any mistakes are magnified.

At what expense? You giving JVR for him? I'm not ready to.

If we can get Burke to overpay a touch with JVR for Schenn plus id be all for it
A move NEEDS to be made on D. If we don't make a move, we're not trying. We've already given up on this season. I've never known the Flyers not to try. - Schenn2shine
I dont know what the answer is. I dont like to sound negative but I wish the Flyers were sellers at the TDL. Would love to add more picks and young talent to the roster.

bourdon needs a visit to the cote suite at a minimum.

I would make a JvR for Schenn and Kadri deal. I would. No question about it. If Burke feels like he's being ripped off, the only I would offer next to JvR is a 3rd round pick conditional or not. The world saw how good JvR can be in the playoffs last season. He stepped up when so few on this roster would or could. Plus, if you get Kadri and don't like Kadri, this youngster will have value building sooner or later as well. Kadri could be flipped for something at anytime.

If the Flyers can swing JvR for Schenn and Kadri and we catch him at that desperate of a time, we make out like bandits.

If they cant handle being in different roles throughout a season when you know injuries occur then there is a problem. The contracts and money being given out is an issue. I would seriously consider being sellers if these guys are one dimensional.
We obviously have different opinions and I completely understand what your saying. I just think what looks good on paper doesnt always mean it works on the ice.
Richards and Carter were traded and had value, I dont see how Messy, Coburn, or Carle doesnt land you talent when you look at the asking price for defenseman. I would love to add more picks or young players to this roster. As I see it right now this team isnt good enough to contend for the cup. They will be competitive but when they face the elite teams in the East come playoff time they are going to be outmatched.

It's been along time coming. Carle has gone from being pair with Chris Pronger to being pair with Danny Syvret, Marc-Andre Burdon and Erik Gustafsson. I feel any NHL caliber defenseman would work magic on Carle's play.
I would consider a JvR-Schenn deal, depending on the other components involved. I don't like a straight up deal, but JvR for Schenn+? I'd sure listen. - Jsaquella
If I'm the Flyers I'm not trading JVR. He has been injured most of this year. I agree it would look bad to players around the league that the flyers deal alot of their long term contracts.. I understand wanting to improve the team, but it better be a hell of a return from TOR
