People need to look at the big picture. Bill said it in one of his musings that Bryz's stats are sub-par but he has not been subpar in everygame. In fact when he wins the Flyers are exactly what they need him to be and when he loses he's more like what we saw today. You put a team playing tight like the Rangers do in front of him and his numbers get better thus making him better. - JoeRussomanno
He needs to get more consistent. There's no two ways about it. And it's fundamentals that are killing him when he's bad. Look at the Gaborik goal. On that he should be pinned against the post. He's got his stick out at an angle to prevent a cross crease pass, and that's why Gaborik scored. He got caught trying to do too much.

The Del Zotto goal was worse. The Gaborik goal was not good, but it was flukey. Bryzgalov seemed to be thinking about a cross crease play, rather than just getting the paddle down and hugging the post.
The Del Zotto one was the killer. - Jsaquella
The Del Zotto was no better, but I, 5 seconds left, hug the pipe please poke check him something close it off.
It's not like Gabby wrapped it across the wide side & he had to stretch out |

Completely concur but I will add this- I'd rather him get caught trying to do too much than not enough. I know his heart is in the right place, can't grill him too bad for that. |

he doesnt have to be like lundqvist but the big save... he cant make it right now and hasnt all year and the softies have to stop especially in big games... he needs to make the saves he suppose to save with the occasion stone job and i'd be thrilled but he hasnt and thats the disappointing part - Slammed81
I really dont know how to fix Bryz. He was a very good goalie in Phoenix and made big saves for them. I dont see why playing in Philly would ruin his game. The pressure is different no doubt about it but he didnt wake up this year and forget how to play goalie. Bryz hasnt settled in all year starting back in camp. |

Thats prob his biggest prob, He is unfimilar and feels like he has to do to much, whereas in PHX he knew what everyone eles was doing and knew what he had to do. |

I honestly think a large part of this has to do with the pressure. A majority of it has to be mental.
He is not handling being "the man" in a big hockey market at all.

The bottom line is that the Flyers are far, far too aggressive on the offensive side of the puck. That has to be fixed. - MJL
true and guys like Giroux need to be a bit more responsible on the D side as well. Alot of times Giroux has left a guy wide open in front of the net to get the easy goal |

I think you start by tightening up the mess in front of him. In Phx I don't think he was having to shut the door on this many golden opportunities. |

True, but most times, on that play the puck hits his stick and dies in front of him.
Bryzgalov wasn't trying to poke check, either-he was anticipating cutting off a cross crease play, which has burned the Flyers on several occasions this year-either by kicking in off a skate or being an easy slam dunk by an uncovered winger.
That's why the Gaborik goal is more flukey, IMO, than "soft". The time and situation make it a bad goal, no arguing that whatsoever. |

He looked like a goalie who was beaten after the Gaborik goal. I just didnt like his body language after that goal. I want him to play well and the Flyers need him to play well if they want to have a chance to compete. |

yea I saw the replay and he def was trying to stop something cross pass. It really make you think that some of the D let downs are effecting him. Shows that teams like the Preds and the Yotes play very solid in front of the goalie and allow them to focus on the job they need to do. If you dont think thats the case look at how Halak has played under Hitch |

Morganti said soft soft soft, and I do agree, he didn't poke at the puck, nothing, he just tilted his stick & created a ramp under his arm pit. |

I think that it's 99% mental. It's a new team, new system in front of him, new conference, new demands on him from the media, new everything. To top it off, he's had wretched luck thus far-deflections, goofy bounces...that stuff can snowball and hurt a guy's confidence and approach.
The resiliency he's shown in the past gives me a good deal of hope, though. His first full season in Phoenix he was dreadful, and rebounded the next year to be a Vezina finalist.

Im really tired of having to defend him. His defense hasnt been consistent but that doesnt seem to change anytime soon. So he is going to have to be better than he was today. He has played much better over his last 4-5 starts which is a good sign. |
