if you read what I wrote, I find it sad that they'd rather mock Gomez than cheer for a Plekanec goal. whether you agree (clearly, you don't and that's ok), that's a dumb way to spend money. May as well stay home or sell the tickets to someone who wants to be there.

but hey... I agree that they can express themselves as they wish to.

- EricEngels

I agree it sucks Pleks got caught in the nonsense but I'm more interested in knowing how they're going to fix it. The season is shot and they've got an opportunity to start a change. Do they do it with Gauthier? Do you think they will bury Gomez in the offseason?

I get the whole booing is bad and unproductive, but not showing up to games is not likely to happen in this town.
The only way to communicate our displeasure is through booing, online petitions and Molson boycotts will do nothing but make the fanbase look worse.
When the players go for the most money and show no loyalty to the fans why should the fans show loyalty to them? I cheer for the logo on the front so put up or ship out. The players want to get the most money they can (I have no problem with that,) but then they can't complain when they are treated as assets and any asset that brings down the bottom line must be liquidated.

I hate that the sport is now more business than hockey, but this league made its bed...

If the players are too stupid to realize that when they make an average person's lifetime income in 1 year that they will be held to higher standards . I won't boo Gomez the person when I see him off the ice, but I will boo an underperforming 8 million dollar asset.

They paid to be there. they chose to boo. who are you to say what they can or cannot do? I'm betting MOST of the 21273 think we're dumb for wasting time on HB.
- muffin_man

I don't get it? I never said anyone can or can't do anything. They can behave as they wish, same as I can judge their behavior as smart or stupid, useful or completely counter-productive.

I wrote it in the blog...they're entitled to behave however they want.

As far as I'm concerned, they're turning into everything Habs fans used to hate about Leafs fans. You want to join that party...be my guest.

- EricEngels

I think there is a lot of extra backlash from Habs fans, because they held on to things like losing to the Bruins (who eventually won the cup) as some sort of indication that they had a great team (some went as far as saying since they took the Bruins to 7 games, they were the second best team in the NHL), when in reality, they were just fooling themselves. The expectations were wrongfully so high, that they're taking this dose of realism a little extra hard.

All of them do, to different extents. I'm just saying, I think that's partly why it's getting so bad.

When you win as many championships as this team has, the expectations are always there, regardless of the team's performance the year before, or the current season. That's just the way it is. I have been living in NY for 13 years now, and the Yankee fans are the same.

Gomez sucks but it's because the fans don't cheer him out of his slump.
