Gomez sucks but it's because the fans don't cheer him out of his slump. - Pecafan Fan
you're just piling it on now, Marty. |

come on. A few cheerleaders won't help this team get out of the hole they dug themselves into.
On the booing Gomez part, I think the fans would gladly boo Gainey and Gauthier instead, but they aren't gonna lace the skates anytime soon now are they? |

When you win as many championships as this team has, the expectations are always there, regardless of the team's performance the year before, or the current season. That's just the way it is. I have been living in NY for 13 years now, and the Yankee fans are the same. - hscesq
I suspect many of the posters here would have been too young (or not born at all) the last Habs cup though. At most, they've seen 1, MAYBE 2 in their lifetime. |

I think there is a lot of extra backlash from Habs fans, because they held on to things like losing to the Bruins (who eventually won the cup) as some sort of indication that they had a great team (some went as far as saying since they took the Bruins to 7 games, they were the second best team in the NHL), when in reality, they were just fooling themselves. The expectations were wrongfully so high, that they're taking this dose of realism a little extra hard. - prock
we were one goal away from the Cup... |

So because you witness it twice, it means the history of the team doesn't exist?
It means your father and grand father don't talk about how great they were? |

never said they'd be the difference. i never said anything about booing either, except in reference to Plek scoring a goal.
Showing up to mock a player by mock-cheering every time he touches the puck is a waste of money. but hey, I understand they feel their money's been wasted anyways going to watch this team play. |

You'd be very surprised how inaccurate this statement is. There are some young ones yes, but most of us ARE old enough, and many of us grew up in the 70's watching Cup win, after Cup win. And even the young ones are taught by their fathers/uncles/brothers, about the sanctity of the franchise. |

Its probably even more difficult to accept failure if you've only heard about all these cups but never witnessed them. |

Marty, there are plenty of seats sold to every game. At least 5,000 of them (moderate estimate, conservative at best), regardless of season tickets being sold out.
people are still buying tickets every day. |
