But yet Luke Schenn, who even in Juniors wasn't a top point producer, was chosen with the 5th overall pick in the draft. - MJL
By that logic, JVR is worth more, because he was selected 2nd overall. |

Thanks, but I'll stick to the opinions from hockey analysits that say any deal for JVR would be for a "PACKAGE" that would include Luke Schenn.
That means JVR is expected to land L.Schenn + - RooNosHockey
No question JvR lands you Schenn +
If its a straight up deal, Toronto should pat themselves on the back. |

You only got a first and a guy that might end up a dud for Carter, who has scored 46 goals and was a consistant 30 goal scorer... How can you justify 2 guys for JVR.
Schenn might be a dud, just as much as JVR might be a dud, just as much as Voracek might be a dud... I dont think JVR and 3rd for Schenn and a 1st is a bad deal for either team. - RooNosHockey
Here is the difference. We got a guy who was already a 50 point players before and the #8 pick in the draft. Top 10 picks are usually pretty reliable picks. I dont want a 20-30 pick on a d-man that might not work out (especially knowing how we pick d-men). I would rather it be a package deal. |

We could see a defensive overhaul during the summer. Carle may walk, Pronger may be out again, and you would think the Flyers would like to upgrade the 6th spot.
Will see what happens. The Flyers would like to win a cup this year but I dont know if their ready to take that next step with so many rookies. - stveshdy
Could be off-season, but what if they do trade JVR and a 3rd for Schenn and a First. Then maybe deal a second for Gill. Now for Defense you have:
Timonen-Coburn
Carle-Gill
Schenn-Meszaros
Next season you let Carle and Gill walk, and try and sign Suter... Then you take your 2 first rounders and either move up to get a known stud that may be able to play next season, or you use it to take 2 first round defenseman and develop them for when Coburn and Meszaros' contracts are up. Next season could be Timonen-Suter
Schenn-Coburn
Meszaros-Pick or Gus or MAB |

Again, with the status of JVRs health and the fact that the Leafs are in the playoff race I cant see any way how JVR gets you + |

Can Luke Schenn and Scott Stevens be compared? I've always known as a hard hitting stay at home defenseman but Stevens has put up some very good numbers. Nearing the end of his career the offense disappeared to his usual numbers he was still a decent defensive defenseman. |

Not a chance IMO. Phaneuf is closer to Stevens with the whole hard hitting and point producing. |

If thats the case, then you dont trade JvR. I think he is worth more than Schenn talent wise. |

If Schenn could be compared to Stevens, I'm not sure Toronto would want to part with him. |

What kind of return would Matt Read fetch? I've been very impressed with his game. He reminds me of a Gagne/Sharp. |

A 2nd for Gill is a major overpayment. He could probably be had for a 4th. I'd re-sign him for another year too on the cheap and put an end to our 5-6 problem for the time being. He's definitely a player I think we should pick up tho.
Next year this is what I'd like to see.
Kimmo-Suter(or the next best UFA out there)
Mezzy-Schenn(at a fair price)
Coburn-Gill
Lilja-MAB-Gus

Last years draft was not as deep as this years draft, and we got LUCKY Couturier dropped to us. Hamilton might have been a good pick, but the fact remains, the Flyers had no idea how good that 8th pick was going to be. And like I said, because this year is deep, you will have a better selection at 20, but also because its deep, you might find it easier to trade your 2 firsts up to a top 5-10 pick. |

Poile is on the Fan590 and he basically just said Suter will not be traded.
Poile talked to his agent today and talks to Suter every 2nd day.

It's interesting his name isn't being brought up more in trade rumors. Well I guess if JVR were healthy he would. I'd rather sell high on Read than low on JVR. But neither is one I really want to trade.
But to answer your question I think he's worth a mid to late round 1st. |

I put the word out on Hockeybuzz. It's just easier to have people join who like different teams. I only know my cousin personally (The Leafs). Everyone else is from this site. |
