Giroux for Bogosian. That each side needs help in those respective facets of the game, but that doesnt mean it would necessarily benefit both teams.
If the Flyers got Schenn and Kadri it would benefit them. You have to improve in order to benefit. I dont think giving up JvR who has 1st line winger potential, for a defenseman who is currently playing on the 3rd pair and has 3-4 potential benefits the Flyers. - jak521
Both the Giroux deal, and the JVr/Schenndeal would benefit both teams. The Flyers would get a young defenseman who upgrades their defense. The Leafs would get a good young forward who makes their team better. Doesn't mean you make the deal. |

Jesus Roe... I read and reposted exactly what you said.
If I said a 1st for Andy Sutton deal would benefit the both teams.. wouldnt it be implied that the deal would be a (gasp) 1st for Andy Sutton? - jak521

I guarantee you that I was the very first person on the board to suggest Kadri should be added in a JvR/Schenn deal to make giving up JvR worth while. Again, I wasn't suggesting that JvR should be traded straight up. Never once did I say or suggest this. You can repost all my comments and you'll never find a statement typed out by me that suggests me saying this. |

Yeah, which is why I'd lean more towards offering a 1st for him. Not sure that gets it done tho. I'd reluctantly throw in Harry Z or MAB but that's as far as I go for Schenn. - hereticpride
I wouldnt trade picks. The only way I give up anything in terms of young guys or prospects would be if the other team over paid. Other wise I standing pat. |

So just because you add a player who may address a certain area of need, regardless of what you give away, it benefits the team? Couldnt disagree more.
Soo.. Giroux for Ryan Callahan
We all know how much we need a strong defensive center, and the Rags need some more offense. |

Both sides would definitely benefit from that deal. Doesn't make it a good deal, but they would still both benefit. - MJL
Good/Even trade = when both parties walk away feeling they got swindled.
Would you consider this to be true in the Schenn/JVR trade? |

Is JVR a premier Power Forward? In terms of potential, Schenn and JVR are fairly equal. And I'm not sure how you would know that there isn't one respected talent evaluator who would consider such a deal a good deal. Just search past trades made by NHL GM's to know that that's not likely true. - MJL
really? youd be in the distinct minority there. so you would advocate for a straight up swap? |

NHL teams all the time give up a player at a position that they have depth at, that weakens that spot, to improve in another area. Are you telling me that the Flyers wouldn't benefit from having Schenn paired with Matt Carle versus Bourdon? Or Schenn over Bourdon, Lilja, or Gustafsson regardless of who he was paired with? The Flyers are a very good offensive team. They are a poor defensive team. So they wouldn't benefit from upgrading the defense?
So then the question becomes, what is JVR's value. Can you make a deal for a better player then Schenn in trading JVR. I think you could argue that you could. So that's why you probably don't make that deal straight up. Because you might be able to get a better return. But that doesn't mean that both teams wouldn't benefit from the deal. |

I don't think anyone is suggesting that JvR should be traded straight up for Luke Schenn. In fact I can't remember the last time a deal went down where a player was traded straight up for another player. |
