I don't understand what you mean. - Schenn2shine
Burke wants a pwr forward w/ 30-35 goal/yr potential..which is a greater value than jake. that's all I was trying to say. |

really? youd be in the distinct minority there. so you would advocate for a straight up swap? - isaiah520
Explain to me how they both don't have similar potential. No, as I have stated repeatedly, I do not advocate a straight up deal. |

I can tell you right now MJL can back this up. - Schenn2shine
I remember distinctly that you have been talking that trade up for a while. |
|

NHL teams all the time give up a player at a position that they have depth at, that weakens that spot, to improve in another area. Are you telling me that the Flyers wouldn't benefit from having Schenn paired with Matt Carle versus Bourdon? Or Schenn over Bourdon, Lilja, or Gustafsson regardless of who he was paired with? The Flyers are a very good offensive team. They are a poor defensive team. So they wouldn't benefit from upgrading the defense?
So then the question becomes, what is JVR's value. Can you make a deal for a better player then Schenn in trading JVR. I think you could argue that you could. So that's why you probably don't make that deal straight up. Because you might be able to get a better return. But that doesn't mean that both teams wouldn't benefit from the deal. - MJL
The Pronger deal is a prime example of this in my opinion. |

I agree with you. Plus JvR was drafted high within his class, so you know this guy could very well be a player in the NHL. |

I think the moment you make the mistake of saying anything along the lines of "JvR/Schenn deal", people think you're implying that they should be traded straight up. I don't think anyone is saying this but many are accusing others of saying this. |

Even if Bryzgalov doesn't make improvement the rest of the year. I will still have faith in him in the future. He's proven to be a very good goalie in his career. He just didn't suddenly forget how to play - MJL
I agree that one year doesn't make or break a goalie.
Even Tim Thomas, Ryan Miller and Roberto Luongo have had subpar seasons.
But the thought that Phoenix's insulated defense helped make Bryz look better than he really is, is also a possibility.
Like you, I'll still have faith heading into a new season with him; but he (along with the team in front of him) need to be better next year; or this contract could be a colossal bust. |

Always a risk wirh signing a player to a 9 year deal. I would suggest that the Flyers become a better defensive team. That has to happen regardless of how Bryzgalov plays. |

Mind you I realize Bryzgalov was a back up with the Ducks and they had a strong defensive core but I'm not sure if I would have considered that team a defensive oriented team. They just had defensively responsibly players. Bryzgalov was a good goalie with the Ducks and I'm sure a lot of GM's around the league knew it. Phoenix is still pretty much the same season they were last season, minus Bryz. I think they really miss Bryz right now. |

Correct. Virtually no goalie will succeed with this defense in front of him. |

Bryz played behind Neidermayer and Beachemin in 05-06 and Neidermayer, Pronger and Beauchemin in 06-07 and put up average stats. |

Well then I have to ask, was Bryz good back then with having stars only play average in front of him? Did Bryz have a hand in on keeping his team in games? |
