How is JVR clearly a notch or 2 above? Schenn has been a top defenseman on an NHL team as a 21 year old. Has JVR been a top player on an NHL team in his career? - MJL
Absolutely. See last years playoffs. |

Didn't think it was debate that scoring wingers are generally held as more valuable assets than defensive defensemen. - bradleyc4

I agree. The idea of trading for Luke Sehenn is tempting, he does have a reasonable contract. At the same time, JvR could very much be something special. |

The Flyers have to find a way to upgrade the defense. It may not happen until the draft or summer but something will need to be done especially when Pronger may never play again and Carle may walk. |

He showed he could be that player in a handful of games. But he hasn't shown that he can on a consistent basis for a Season. I beleive he was on his way to doing so this year, before he was derailed by injuries. I think JVR is going to be a very good player, and would rather keep him unless I was bowled over with an offer. |

Hey Lindy...just when you thought it was safe to go out and conduct 1 on 1 drills with your team....one of your D-man blows a tire and blindsides you!
3 broken ribs later....
I hate when that happens! |

I agree. Before JvR got hurt he was at a reasonable pace. I'm impressed he has 11 goals this season. When he got hurt only a handful of players had 20 goals. Make no mistake JvR wasn't going to be Stamkos or Ovie in his prime based on what he did in the playoffs last season. I have no doubt he can take on a bigger role but it doesn't mean he's going to rip up the league. |

Jagr is fine. He told me he was just pissed off about something, but no injury. No worries.

I do not want to ship JVR out unless it addresses the need we have for a Dman like Weber.
Ken Holland has said he would never over pay for a defensive defenseman. Only time you overpay is to acquire a guy like Weber. Nashville would be out of their minds to let him walk IMO. JVR should stay.. When he gets healthy, he'll be great. |

Just because Schenn played on a top line, doesn't mean he is a top defenseman. MAB and Gus have both played on the top line for extended periods of time, does that make them top defensman on NHL team? Schenn has saw his ice time cut, and has even been a coaches decision. I'm not the only on that thinks JVR is worth more in a package... Look at just about every "professional" analyst that has looked at this possibility. |

JvR will only be traded if Homer wants to upgrade the defense with a top tier defenseman. The issue is where do you get one (who is willing to trade one). |

A top defensive defenseman is certainly more valuable then a top scoring Winger in my opinion.
I would rank the positions as follows in terms of importance
Goalie
Defenseman
Center
Winger - MJL
In terms of building a team, yes.
In terms of value of prospects, no.

A little worried about Danny Briere playing today but who better to start off against then the Islanders. He has pretty good numbers against them. On the flip side of the coin, I haven't heard anything about Briere since last week. I can neither confirm or deny how he's been doing this past week. - Schenn2shine
Danny may have been cleared to play late last week but then supposedly had "minor" headaches that went away quickly. Stayed out as a precaution. He said he's been totally symptom free since Saturday.

I would do JVR and Florida 3rd for L.Schenn and Toronto 1st. I think its a fair deal. We lose JVR, but the youth on Offense is enough to make up for it, and we gain a second 1st rounder in a deep draft, that can be used to continue to take young defenseman to help replenish the youth on this team. So out of this deal you lose JVR, but you get Schenn, and another top youth defenseman. You may even be able to use your picks to move up in the draft and take a really good guy. |

Only thing that scares me is that the Flyers dont do a good job of picking defenseman. Their are options but will have to sit back and wait to see what Homer does. |

Exactly how I feel...
Im just saying I think his upside (something has shown for extended periods of time, including the second half of last season when he scored at a near identical pace as Carter.. and then took it way beyond that in the playoffs) is much higher than Schenn. I dont think Schenn is a bad player.. I think he has the skill set to be a pretty damn good 3-4. But I honestly think JvR has 30-40 goal 75+ point potential.
I said prior to the start of the season that I thought JvR would post 35 goals and 70 points. Through the first 2 months of the season (he battled the abdominal injury through November and Dec. IIRC) He had 8 goals and 8 assists... I know it is a weak example, but that through a whole season would be 33 goals and 33 assist for 66 points. |

Specifically, a 1st line winger vs a potential 2nd pair complement to the Puck mover that a players like jvr should fetch. |

can't wait for the day when we talk about how thankful we are that jvr was concussed and therefore didn't get traded to the leafs - Don'tForgetTocchet
I've trash talked on JVR. Hell the other day I called him "van Cartsdyk". But really it is in jest when I get like that. I'll admit it, it is good-natured semi-trolling, in the same vein as some of the stuff that gets said by folks about 45 (note I did not say his name ). If I am being serious, I do not want to see JVR dealt at all. He is big and has great hands and unlike the guy I linked him to the other day, he has shown that he can get into en extra gear in the playoffs. Not every NHLer is capable of that. I want him around for a few more years so the big kid can continue to develop his game and grow into his frame. If he is dealt, Holmer better get a damn good return. |
