I think if we trade for Schenn, Carle is staying. If we trade for Johnson and Schenn, then Carle leaves. So I'll do it 3 ways... Just my opinion for fun.
Option 1:
Carle-Schenn
Timonen-Coburn
Gus-Meszaros
Option 2:
Timonen-Coburn
Gus-Schenn
MAB-Meszaros
Option 3:
Timonen-Coburn
Johnson-Schenn
Gus-Meszaros - RooNosHockey
I like option No. 3 of those as well. I'd like for Coburn, Johnson and Mezzy, all to be looking to safely jump up into the rush a.s.a.p. with the security of steady partner behind them.

There aren't any distractions out there. Nothing to focus on besides hockey. I'm shocked he is struggling the way he is. - PLindbergh31
Nah, there's nothing to distract a young guy in LA.
Note: not saying he is distracted by anything. |

It would all change depending on who was brought in. I can't answer tha question definitively. I really don't want to see both Gustafsson and Bourdon both in the lineup. - MJL
Why not? They haven't looked terribly out of place to me. They are both young, affordable, serviceable D men, who can play as high as No. 4 for short spells if need be imo. Better than much of what we've had in the 5-6 slots the past few season imo. |

My post about no distractions was obviously sarcasm... Oh well...
Bryz is not at practice, apparently the folks who report from Voorhees can't tell the difference between Ba-Cash-Money and Bryzgalov.
Looks like Bob this weekend. |

I don't question Richards desire to win - nastyflyergirl
me neither, until he decided to stop skating sometime in the last couple years.
he went from, "why bother?" with the media to why bother working hard since i'm getting paid an average of 5.6 million until 2021. |

I was really impressed with both Bourdon and Gussy's games last night. Especially Bourdon made some really good decisions in his own end with pressure on and Flyers forwards not back to support... and Gus has got that Timmonen'esque ability to carry the puck through the neutral zone with flair...
It sucks coming to the realization at this point in the season that the team is probably still a year or two away from 'really' contending for a cup (with all the injuries and rookies filling key roles) - but watching the young guys out there with the game on the line (Coots winning that D-zone draw with a less than 3 mins left comes to mind last night) - they have a great core of youth and I think they can be really good... AND once you get to the post season - who knows what can happen!
Go Flyers! - briseman
If the Flyers play like they did last night every night, then they are cup contendors. They need a little help on defense, and Bryz needs to be consistantly GOOD. But as long as they stay healthy now, and stop playing a perimeter pass game, and get the pucks and bodies to the net, then they can play with any team in the league, and win...

I think both are depth defenseman who can play adequately. I like Bourdon better then Gustafsson at this point. I don't view either as a player you want in your top 4. Maybe in the future. Bourdon needs some more experience, but has some good tools. I don't like Gustafsson's size, and he's not good enough with the puck to make up for it. They're decent players, but not really enamored with either.
Last year we had Meszaros and O'Donnell on the 3rd pair. |

Well thats a good thing for bob....its his time and opportunity to step in there and prove what hes got..... He better be chomping at the bits to get in there and show em he can start.....If he can go into this weekend and play real well and grab at least 3 points....it will be hard for lavi to put bryz in when hes back.... |

He does but I dont see him giving the Flyers a discount. If he would sign for what Coburn did I think he would be locked up. My guess is he will get around $5.5M and I dont know if the Flyers are willing to go that high yet. They may be in on Carle but see what his market value is (like Ville). If the price is too expensive they will move on imo. - stveshdy
In my opinion, i don't think Carle is even worth that much. I think he's a dime a dozen type of Dman. He's not an offensive threat and he's not physical. If you're going to demand that type of salary, the dman is usually one or the other. |

Pantachio gets Bacashihua to skate over during a brief break in practice and commences interview:
Panatch: So Bryz, did your time on the throne all day yesterday give you any insight into how you can score goals on the shootout?
Bacashihua: Uh I'm not Bryz
Panatch: Okay then Bryzard of Oz how are you going to handle it in tommorows game if you suddenly get a relapse of yesterday's symptoms in the game?
Bacashihua: Bryz isn't here today I am Jason Bacashihua Bryz is still sick.
Panatch: yes good ploy be someone else besides the universe guy we saw on HBO if you do have a relapse of the runs tommorow we will just write how bad you stunk out there, no pun intended
Bacashihua: I AM NOT (frank)ING BRYZGALOV!
Panatch: wait so you're telling me Bryz isn't playing tommorow?

I agree with your take on it. I'm thinking more towards the future though. Both MAB and Gus have played very few NHL games. With Pronger being out, and if you take away Jagr, suddenly the Flyers are one of the youngest teams in the league. I'd really like to see them grow together over the next two seasons or so and then take a real run at it. |

not sure we've seen enough of gustafsson to determine that he's not good enough with the puck. that's his strength. not really in a position right now to let that come out, though i do think you see it in flashes. |

I gotta be honest, if you were to have told me the player having the best year after leaving the Flyers last season was Versteeg I would have said no way
Versteeg 51GP 20-25-45 +5
Richards 47 GP 14-13-27 0
Carter 33 12-7-19 -9
Leino 42 4-11-15 -5
Carcillo 28 2-9-11 +10
Powe 54 4-5-9 -12 - nastyflyergirl
Richards is at his career goals per season pace, his linemates (Penner and Stoll) are bringing him down. |
