Maybe they plan to add Voracek in the deal with a pick or Gus/MAB for Johnson. That way they would be adding more scoring to their lineup upfront. Like I said I have no idea if they have someone to replace Johnson bc I dont watch every single LA game. I understand what your trying to say though. That trade isnt necessary for cap space. - stveshdy
That's fine, but nobody mentioned Voracek until now. The people proposing this have said Johnson for MAB or Gus and a 1st. Adding Voracek to it makes it more logical. |
|
|
|
Suddenly Gus and MAB are 22 minute a night power play QB's?
It's not crazy, it's totally illogical. If they trade Bernier and Stoll for Carter, they addressed their need for scoring, and still have about $3mm in cap room. Why trade Johnson at that point for a 1st and a 6th defenseman? There's no need to at that point, you already added the scorer.
If you really want the first back, you can trade Johnson at the draft. He's not a pending FA - Jsaquella

Yeah. I think Voracek would be needed to complete this kind of deal. |

how la is like right up against the cap - griouxmvp2012
The Kings could currently add a $2.5mm cap hit. That's hardly up against the cap. If they trade Stoll and Bernier in a deal for Carter, they will have about $3mm in cap room to replace Bernier as the backup goalie.
The Kings have plenty of cap room, there is zero reason for them to make a cap deal.
At the deadline the Kings will have enough room to add a $3.6mm cap hit |

I do as well, but at the same time, if they add Carter, do they need to add Voracek? Not sure. |

My personal opinion is the Flyers arent willing to pay him $5.5M until they are confident that he is the best option for that price. If they could sign him to a deal that was alittle more than Coburns it would be done. - stveshdy

Don't change what I'm saying. MAB can come in and be a 5-6 guy for them if JJ is dealt. That move gives them the cap room to go add Carter and potentially another forward. It's a give and take between offensive and defensive power. With the 3rd best GAA in the league and arguably the best goalie in the West they can afford to move JJ. I'm pretty sure the story goes that the Flyers approached the Kings about JJ anyway and that was the price LA gave. It's not like LA is actively shopping him or anything. If that's what Lombardi wants then obviously he has a plan for the extra cash too. It really wouldn't surprise me to see them go after Carter and another top 6 guy. |

yes that where i got that from - griouxmvp2012
No, you didn't. Cap geek has the Kings with enough cap room to take on a $2.5mm cap hit as of today, and a $3.6mm cap hit at the trade deadline. They do not need to make a cap room deal, especially if they are moving Stoll and Bernier for Carter. |

Maybe adding Voracek and Carter helps their offense out more. Their losing Stoll, Bernier, and Johnson.
They may also acquire picks or players like Gus/MAB etc.
Only way I see LA making these kinds of trades is if their looking to change things up bc they have underachieved so far this season. |

If they trade Johnson, they have to look at replacing everything Johnson brings. He plays 22 minutes a night. He's their PP QB. So either MAB or Gus, or somebody currently on their roster would have to replace what Johnson is doing.
Johnson isn't exactly Rod Langway or Scott Stevens, he's an offensive defenseman, so trading him would probably impact the offensive side of things, especially the PP, more than the defensive side.
There's no logical reason for the Kings to trade Stoll, Bernier and a 1st for Carter and then turn around and trade Johnson for a 1st and prospect. If the goal is to recoup the 1st, they can trade Johnson at the draft. |

I think a greater question for the Kings is are they willing to have two guys under contract making over $5 million for the next 10 years with both having no-trade clauses. The no trade clauses are the tough part if I'm Lombardi.

Apparently, being traded prior to the NTC kicking in can negate the NTC |

That last sentence is the one that makes the most sense out of the whole thing. That's not usually Lombardi's style, but he might feel pressure. |

- Philly1980
Sorry.
The best thing about last night's game was the Flyers really tightening up the defense in the third period. They did a good job of limiting the Leafs chances and clearing rebounds to prevent secondary scoring chances.
If they could do that every game.... |

Both Schenns played well. Luke got a little burned on Braydon's goal, but otherwise he was very solid for the Leafs |
